Vang Statement will be Allowed During Trial

Chai Vang's statements to police can be used at his trial. That decision was handed down today by a Sawyer County judge.

Vang is accused of gunning down six hunters in the woods of Sawyer County during hunting season last November.

His attorneys asked the judge to prohibit his statement because the defendant wasn't given the opportunity to talk to an attorney.

The state attorney general's office, which is prosecuting the case, says Vang was read his Miranda rights at least three times before he made his statement to police.

Judge Norman Yackel says Vang's statements were made voluntarily and none of his rights were violated.

A criminal complaint says Vang admitted to investigators that he ran after some of the victims and shot them in the back.
