1960's Civil Rights Ties to Wisconsin

A jury in Mississippi finds a former Ku Klux Klansman guilty of masterminding the killings of three civil rights workers 41 years ago, to the day.

One of those civil rights workers has Madison ties. Andrew Goodman went to school at U.W. Madison for one year in the early 60s.

Shortly after the murders his mother donated many of her son's belongings to the Wisconsin Historical Society.

Harry Miller from Wisconsin's Historical Society says its a collection of photographs and some documentary material. He says the artifacts were sent to the historical society because of their well known Civil Rights collection as well as Goodman's ties to the university.

Eighty-year-old Edgar Ray Killen was found guilty today in the 1964 murders. He could get up to 20 years on each of the three counts of manslaughter.
