Designers of Madison's new central park say it will transform an old rail corridor on the city's near East side into a park like none other in our area.
The non-profit organization in charge of the project unveiled its new concept plan for the 17 acre park Thursday. It spans ten city blocks between the Yahara River and Blair Street. The plan includes a public market plaza, a garden and bike paths. The park also features a covered stage and a skateboard park.
Heather Mann, the Executive Director for Urban Open Space says the park is being designed right now, "It will be a place for kids to come and express their athletic skills and for families to be able to watch and enjoy what they are seeing."
The total cost of the park is about $20 million. That includes the construction and maintenance.
Developers hope to open central park within five years.
