The new version of the budget now goes to the senate for approval.

Democrats in the Assembly proposed more than 100 amendments to the budget, but only two passed. Democrats in the Senate say they're still working on how many amendments they'll be offering up. One democrat says their main issues will be healthcare, education, jobs and property taxes. Republicans hold a 19 to 14 majority in the senate, but Democrats think there is room for compromise.

Senator Russ Decker says, "I think one of the things we'll be pushing in the budget is to exempt the first $60,000 of everybody's home for school property taxes. Statewide that would be the largest property tax break a homeowners ever received. So we'll put that out there and hopefully convince the Republicans to join us."

The senate is expected to take up the budget sometime next week. Decker says he's not sure if they'll have to work as late into the morning as the Assembly did to pass it.
