A new survey finds more than half of American teens say they know a friend who's been physically, sexually or verbally abused by teens they're dating.
Results of a national study by fashion designer Liz Claiborne found 57 percent of teens say they have friends who have been abused and 13 percent say they have been a victim.
Those who advocate and work with abuse victims say Americans don't realize just how prevalent abuse is in our society, especially among our children.
Kelly Anderson from the Rape Crisis Center in Madison says, "the number of calls keeps going up and we do hear from more adolescents. The question is: is that because we're doing better outreach or is that because more of it is happening. I think that's one of those questions we'll probably never know but the more people we can help the better and that's the key."
The study also reports those who do report most often tell other teen friends, who are just as inexperienced in dealing with it.
