Residents who suffered property damage from a twister in northwestern Wisconsin are being allowed back in the
neighborhood to try to salvage some items.
St. Croix Valley Gas has cut off natural gas to the area
in Hammond, just west of the Twin Cities. Checks for gas leaks had delayed the cleanup following Saturday's tornado.
Utility spokesman Duane Pederson says the houses are ``safe at
the moment.'' Pederson says four duplexes and an apartment building
sustained the most damage.
Hammond's deputy clerk Mary Hemenway says the cleanup is being
coordinated.
