A body found Tuesday in the Wisconsin River south of Wausau is the 44-year old Mosinee man missing since Saturday.

Marathon County Medical Examiner John Larson says the body of Jeffrey Stencil of Mosinee was found near the Weston Power Plant.

Larson says an autopsy determined Stencil died from drowning and the body had been in the river probably since Saturday.

Authorities say Stencil called his wife Saturday and said his car left Interstate 39 on his way home from work during a heavy rain. The vehicle was found in the median about 200 yards north of the Wisconsin River bridge but there was no sign of him.

An airplane, dogs and more than 100 people searched the area Monday but found nothing.

Larson says police are investigating the circumstances of how he ended up in the river.
