Milwaukee schools did not fare well in a report issued by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. Three–quarters of the 45 schools on the state's failing schools list are from Milwaukee.
Madison's East and LaFollette High Schools are also listed, as well as Aldrich Middle and Memorial High School in Beloit.
The preliminary report identifies schools that failed to make annual yearly progress on test scores and other measures required under the federal No Child Left Behind Act.
Schools have until June 30th to appeal their status. The final report will be issued July 30th.
Joe Donovan from the DPI tells NBC 15 there are fewer schools on the list this year, and 98 percent of the state's schools meet the federal standards.
