Gaming Compacts Due

Wisconsin expects two of the state's biggest Indian tribes to hold out on making their gaming payments due on Thursday.

The state needs to renegotiate gaming compacts after a ruling by Wisconsin's Supreme Court last year.

The Secretary of the Department of Administration expects nine of the state's 11 tribes to pay up. The state will get about $35 million in tribal payments from those tribes.
Secretary Marc Marotta says the Pottawatomie will set aside its payment in an escrow account until the compacts are resolved. Another hold out, the Ho Chunk nation is going to arbitration with the state. It also withheld its payment last year.

In last year's ruling the governor overstepped his authority when he approved expanded gaming.
