There's tragedy in the death of every loved one.
But sometimes a family's loss gives new life and hope to those in need.
Today the Wisconsin Donor Network recognized the sacrifice of organ donors and their families.
Each family received a medal commemorating their lost loved one.
And the ceremony featured living proof of that sacrifice.
In 2001 Kristin Neils needed a new heart and because of a special young girl, she got one. Now she is living a normal life and will always remember the sacrifice that gave her a second chance.
“It's hard to be excited about getting the gift of life when you know the other side of the story, that people are losing someone and you're living because of them,” says Neils.
