It's only been on the books for five days, but already, a Madison alder wants it gone.
At the city's common council meeting Tuesday night, alder Jed Sanborn asked council members to reconsider the ban.
Sanborn says his motivation was the failed exemption for cigar bars, even though he himself voted against it. "I'm against the smoking ban, but I just felt like on principle there wasn't a good reason for an exemption for cigar bars. So I felt to be consistent I should bring this up again. It's not entirely symbolic in that any vote is just as binding as any other vote," says Sanborn.
Council members voted 12–to–5 against overturning the ban, which Sanborn says he expected.
