Fraud Knocking on Doors

Video will be available shortly.

Madison police are warning residents not to open their doors to strangers.

Officers are investigating mulitple cases of fraud on the 1900-block of Winnebago Street on the East side of Madison.

According to complaints, the suspect knocks on doors late at night, claiming he locked himself out of his house. He asks for money to pay a locksmith and promises to pay them back, but residents never see him again.

Madison Police Officer Papalia warns neighbors trying to be helpful to be wary of this man. "These neighborhoods are filled with good people with decent hearts who want to help people in need. And that's an admirable trait but he's taking advantage of them and committing a crime."

Police believe one person is committing these crimes.

The suspect is a 35-40-year-old white male about 5'10'' tall with an average build and has a large bluish tattoo on his forearm.

If anyone has information, they are asked to call CrimeStoppers at 608-266-6014.
