Lights! Camera! Action!

UPDATED Tuesday, June 22, 2009 -- 9:30 p.m.

First it was Chicago. Now the City of Angels. Next week the rest of the country will get to see "Public Enemies."

And if you're paying attention, you may see a familiar face or fist on the screen.

Jason Huett punched, kicked and blocked his way to a career. Now, he has three martial arts studios in the Madison area.

"A lot of the skills I learned I learned right here in the martial arts school."

And he may soon action hero to his resume.

"From what I've heard the reviews have been very good a lot of the people down in Chicago said it was very well done, " says Huett.

In the upcoming film " Public Enemies," staring Johnny Depp as John Dillinger and Christian Bale as FBI agent Melvin Purvis, Huett plays a cop during one of Dillinger's heists.

"I really liked it."

Huett says a friend of his, who knew about his stunt man past, told him about the film and helped him get involved.

Huett spent five days on location shooting in Oshkosh.

"It was really different because the sets that I've been in were out in California and Los Angeles and so to have what seemed like Los Angeles picked up and moved to the Midwest was really different, unique."

He says he didn't get to rub elbows with Depp. But he did get to meet the next best thing. Depp's stunt double.

"We actually found out that we have a friend in common."

He also got to meet the movie's director and UW alum Michael Mann.

Huett admits that made him a little nervous.

"You always get a little bit nervous when you're around that caliber of person."

Huett says he hasn't seen the movie yet. So he doesn't know if he made the final cut. But he's got fingers crossed.

"I'm not real sure how much I'll be on screen. If at all but hopefully."

He also says even if he doesn't make the final cut he'll at least be able to see his name roll in the credits.

can someone please elaborate for me....we as taxpayers help pay nearly half a million dollars to help make this film and what is in it for us, supposedly it boosted columbus' and madison's economy (or so they say) and whatever other cities they were in. I just want to know does the state of wisconsin get any of the money from the profits of the film or do we just get to say hey that part of the movie is in wisconsin? Except for those who live in the areas that filming was done in, it doesnt mean anything to me, its not like anyone in other states will know that was wisconsin or anything. So please tell me what was so good about them filming some of it here in wisconsin if we had to help pay for it and it doesnt give any large publicity to this state.

Welcome to the world of location shooting. you people moaning should suck it up. . didn't see many complaining when they were hanging around the set waiting for a glimpse of big hollywood movie star. Depp wasn't they only one with chauffer driven cars, hairstylists and assistants but guess small minded people aim for the obvious. Your little nomark town was relying too much on hollywood. Instead of blaming Depp and his entourage why don't you start looking at the people that wanted these incentives in the first place seems they got it very very wrong.

I love Depp and think the film sounds great. However, I don't believe taxpayer money should be spent on film expenses. Universal should foot the bill for everything, including Depp's personal needs.

I sure hope when all those number crunches talk about how many "Millions of dollars" Depp's film pumped into the local economy, they remember that each tax paying business and citizen kicked in the first half million!
