Do you think Johnny Depp's visit to Wisconsin is being blown-out-of-proportion?
No, I love Depp!
No, the publicity is good for Wisconsin
Yes, not a Depp fan
Yes, enough already!
I don't care

First it was Chicago. Now the City of Angels. Next week the rest of the country will get to see "Public Enemies."

And if you're paying attention, you may see a familiar face or fist on the screen.

Jason Huett punched, kicked and blocked his way to a career. Now, he has three martial arts studios in the Madison area.

"A lot of the skills I learned I learned right here in the martial arts school."

And he may soon action hero to his resume.

"From what I've heard the reviews have been very good a lot of the people down in Chicago said it was very well done, " says Huett.

In the upcoming film " Public Enemies," staring Johnny Depp as John Dillinger and Christian Bale as FBI agent Melvin Purvis, Huett plays a cop during one of Dillinger's heists.

"I really liked it."

Huett says a friend of his, who knew about his stunt man past, told him about the film and helped him get involved.

Huett spent five days on location shooting in Oshkosh.

"It was really different because the sets that I've been in were out in California and Los Angeles and so to have what seemed like Los Angeles picked up and moved to the Midwest was really different, unique."

He says he didn't get to rub elbows with Depp. But he did get to meet the next best thing. Depp's stunt double.

"We actually found out that we have a friend in common."

He also got to meet the movie's director and UW alum Michael Mann.

Huett admits that made him a little nervous.

"You always get a little bit nervous when you're around that caliber of person."

Huett says he hasn't seen the movie yet. So he doesn't know if he made the final cut. But he's got fingers crossed.

"I'm not real sure how much I'll be on screen. If at all but hopefully."

He also says even if he doesn't make the final cut he'll at least be able to see his name roll in the credits.

Very good, then with some of the proceeds they should use it to fix their pot holes and keep quiet.

can someone please elaborate for me....we as taxpayers help pay nearly half a million dollars to help make this film and what is in it for us, supposedly it boosted columbus' and madison's economy (or so they say) and whatever other cities they were in. I just want to know does the state of wisconsin get any of the money from the profits of the film or do we just get to say hey that part of the movie is in wisconsin? Except for those who live in the areas that filming was done in, it doesnt mean anything to me, its not like anyone in other states will know that was wisconsin or anything. So please tell me what was so good about them filming some of it here in wisconsin if we had to help pay for it and it doesnt give any large publicity to this state.

Judge, so you say, stay in california.

Welcome to the world of location shooting. you people moaning should suck it up. . didn't see many complaining when they were hanging around the set waiting for a glimpse of big hollywood movie star. Depp wasn't they only one with chauffer driven cars, hairstylists and assistants but guess small minded people aim for the obvious. Your little nomark town was relying too much on hollywood. Instead of blaming Depp and his entourage why don't you start looking at the people that wanted these incentives in the first place seems they got it very very wrong.

I love Depp and think the film sounds great. However, I don't believe taxpayer money should be spent on film expenses. Universal should foot the bill for everything, including Depp's personal needs.

seeing wisconsin had to shell out money for this guys salary, I wonder how inclined people are in having joanie depp return.

I sure hope when all those number crunches talk about how many "Millions of dollars" Depp's film pumped into the local economy, they remember that each tax paying business and citizen kicked in the first half million!

I hope nobody from hollywood gets murdered!

I would like to know if anyone knows when he will be coming back to Chicago? I would like to take my children to see him.

I love that Johnny Depp is in Wisconsin. I plan to try an see him tomorrow, but I assume it's chancey. There just aren't enough of pics of the man to ever satisfy a real Depp fan. I'm old, but I'm not dead, and I know a handsome man when I see one. And he's talented, to boot. And he's an amazing human being. You have no idea how much charity work he does, because he never talks about it. But he's incredibly kind and generous. IMHO, we should be kind to the film people, as they have brought much enrichment to our community.

Agrees with Beth 100%!Finally another person who tired of the constant Favre chatter!

Posted by: Rebecca Location: Madison on Mar 18, 2008 at 11:05 PM
Yeah, It was amazingly cold yesterday. (Took all day for my toes to recover from the hour we spent outside.) It was neat to see the set and the crew and, yes, even Johnny Depp. I do love how the media always seem to pick the cream of the crop to interview, though. I was there, even in one of the split second crowd shots. But who do they interview? Congrats- you really tend to showcase the best of Wisconsin. No wonder people have such a low opinion of us, and claim we're just like the cows we grow and love. Yeah. Maybe Johnny will leave his amazingly hot wife and children for a five minute roll in the hay with a cheesehead. At least with the Favre comments, most people were sticking to football instead of being reduced to gooey mush. But whatever.

Johnny Depp is more interesting than the constant FAVRE chatter :-)

Posted by: P Location: Madison on Mar 18, 2008 at 04:29 PM
so, the movie set is open to the public, at least allowing a Johnny Depp sighting> My girlfriends mother is a huge Depp fan and would like for her to get a glimpse of Johnny Depp!

Posted by: Judy Location: Madison on Mar 18, 2008 at 04:25 PM
I also liked the comment about the girl who wanted to be wisked away to Depp's trailer. But seems to me another television station was the one who interviewed that girl.

how long is he gonna be there?? he is an AMZING actor!!

Posted by: Angela Location: Columbus, WI on Mar 18, 2008 at 01:20 PM
It was COLD! yesterday, especially standing outside for any length of time. So, I don't blame Johnny for being so dressed LOL. And let's not forget he's not used to our weather. It was awesome out there yesterday, even just making friends with other people in the crowd. The inconveinece of getting home & to work is NOT a big deal to me. This is most likely a once in a lifetime opportunity. I saw so many mad people yesterday that I was shocked. I didn't think it was anything to get upset over. A little re-routed traffic, a few changes. Have fun with it. I did :)

I was one of the first people to see Johnny Depp arrive, behind Jodee O's, along with about 15-20 other people (beofre word got out that his trailer was back there) and OMG!!! What an awesome experience! You don't think that you'll get all "ooie gooie" until you actually see a "Star." I'm 38 years old have appreciated, will never forget, this once in a lifetime experience as a Columbus Resident. I am grateful that my children have had this wonderful opportunity to see one of there idiols up close and personal. It's GREAT!!! I have many pictures of the star arriving to the site of his trailer and one of him waving to us. WHAT A CUTIE HE IS!(Seems Very Friendly also) (feeling like a silly high schooler again...it's great!)

Posted by: Anonymous on Mar 18, 2008 at 11:32 AM
THE BEST WAS THE LADY ON THE NEWS WHO SAID SHE WAS THERE TO SEE IF JOHNNY DEPP WOULD WHISK HER AWAY TO HIS TRAILER, THIS MOVIE IS BRINGING OUT ALL THE FINEST PEOPLE. TO THOSE WHO SPEND ALL DAY OUTSIDE LOOKING FOR ONE HUMAN BEING YOU NEED A HOBBY!

Posted by: Proud Columbus Alumni Location: Appleton, WI on Mar 18, 2008 at 09:01 AM
Whether or not you are a fan of Johnny and the chaos and short-term inconvenience Hollywood has bestowed, Columbus will benefit from the financial benefit this has brought to this small community. Enjoy the long term benefits and the memories that your children will have for years. Worried about where the money will go - speak up and tell your community leaders what you think can be done with this beneficial monies.

Posted by: Anonymous on Mar 18, 2008 at 08:00 AM
Gosh, Does Johnny depp looked a little over dressed? Or was it that cold the other day? Hey security guy or lady, can you as security talk to Jonny? or is that a no, no?

Posted by: j Location: Columbus on Mar 18, 2008 at 07:47 AM
It is not costing any tax payer in the city of Columbus. Universal Studios is re-embersing the city for every penny spent by the fire dept, police and heartline, DPW, and so forth. What it is affecting is people getting to there homes during the shoot. We shouldn't have to wait more than 5 - 10 mins.

As a once Columbus area resident, I say, "how appropriate that a movie about corruption is filmed in Columbus."

Ya I am working a security detail on that set talk about boring. Mr. Depp is nothing special!

Posted by: Brad on Mar 17, 2008 at 06:34 PM
Joe, what is it that you are paying for as a taxpayer for this movie. if i was anyone from the town i would be thankful because it puts you on the map along with the 20 million dollars that is being spent in the town for the staging, much of the staging will stay after the movie crew leaves.

Posted by: T D Location: Beloit on Mar 17, 2008 at 05:37 PM
This is fantastic. My face cleared up, I quit drinking and world peace is imminent. Thanks again Hollywood, you're the greatest.

Posted by: D Location: Madison on Mar 17, 2008 at 11:51 AM
Wow, how is this that big of a story. Little simple town wisconsin shows true.

Posted by: T Location: cheese on Mar 17, 2008 at 10:21 AM
Not a fan, don't care for the guy, but I guess he's here.

Posted by: joe on Mar 16, 2008 at 08:00 PM
I hope that all the tax dollars that us taxpayers pay for the movie to profit form us with only downtown bussiness getting a profit from increased bussiness is worht all this confusion and taxpayers cost for days. especially most of the movie staff will probably staying in madison. another taxpayer expense that could have gone to schollss or other public services.
