The UW Madison has its own ambassadors in London, students.

Today's bombings sent members of the university community into high gear trying to get in touch with them.

The first bomb in London went off near where political science professor Graham Wilson used to live. Wilson just returned to the UW Madison from London last night, after visiting three students interning at Parliament.

"I was really happy to be able to e-mail and get a quick response confirming they were safe," Wilson says.

One wrote an e-mail to Wilson early this morning, saying they all are safe but were rushed off the tube on the way to work. "To be honest, we know that wherever you go these days unfortunately you are at risk ... This type of attack could've happened in New York, Chicago or Washington D.C."

Another UW student interning at the Associated Press in London writes, "The streets are just packed with people walking home, it's literally like a parade of people returning from work because they can't use public transportation. Everyone has remained surprisingly calm..."

Associate Professor of International Relations, Jon Pevehouse says, "In the latest warning from al Qaeda , after a group claimed responsibility, they're now saying other states in Western Europe should expect the same."

But the bombings failed to spread fear in Wilson, or his students of Parliament. He says the experience is worth the risk that exists no matter where you live.

"They get to work up close with legislators. One said it's an experience to remember the rest of his life," Wilson says.

The UW Madison also has a couple of engineering students interning in England. One has reported back to the university. The other is stationed outside of London.
