McCants Murder Trial Begins

In December, 2002, police got a call telling them a 19 year old woman living in a Fitchburg apartment complex was dead. Now more than two and a half years later, the man who made that call to police is going on trial, charged with her murder.

Jury selection began this morning in the trial of Thomas McCants. McCants, 26, is charged with first degree intentional homicide in the death of 19 year old Lizette Fountain.

Her body was found inside her Fitchburg Apartment after McCants called police and told them he found her there.

The trail for McCants has been delayed in part because he was tried and convicted on cocaine charges in federal court.

He's already serving 11 years in federal prison on those drug charges.
Monday morning, a jury made up of eight men and seven woman was selected.

They'll hearing opening statements in the murder case Tuesday morning.
