He allegedly started a fire to clear some grass. As a result of that, he's being charged with a creating a forest fire that burned nearly 4,000 acres.
Thomas Barnhart is charged with a misdemeanor count of setting a fire that became a forest fire.
That fire in May destroyed a number of homes in Adams County.
Barnhart's initial appearance was held in Adams County Court Monday.
He posted a $250 bond, and requested an attorney. That court hearing will continue next month.
