Firefighters may now be responding a little quicker after one fire station goes 24 hours in Fitchburg.
Fire Station number two now has 77 firefighters available at all hours of the night. The city of Fitchburg came up with the "24 hour" plan three years ago after an increase in population and traffic.
Some say the extra help is comforting to those battling the blaze.
"it's a very scary thing if you're that first attack crew crawling through the door and you can't hear the siren of the second truck coming behind you," says interim fire cheif Randall Pickering.
The increase in staffing will not affect fire station number one.
