The Lafayette County courthouse is closed to the public Wednesday. But court is in session -- Hollywood style. Universal Studios is in Darlington with its star to shoot scenes for the film "Public Enemies."
A big spotlight is on Lafayette County's historic courthouse.
"We're here to see Johnny," Holly Buck says.
And the verdict is in.
"...Who do we love?! Johnny Depp."
Darlington loves ... you guessed it... the *star of "Public Enemies" -- Johnny Depp!
"I've got some pictures of him going to the building and his bodyguard ... and he waved," Buck says.
Buck traveled from Round Lake Beach, IL, to catch a glimpse of her favorite movie star.
"We left at four o'clock this morning," Buck says.
Arriving almost as early as the parade of extras, cast as the courtroom audience.
"It started early, had to be here at 5:45 in the morning," David Breunig says.
Filming was scheduled to start at noon in the courtroom. But then there's the prep work -- the task of makeup and hair.
"Cut it quite a bit.. normally not that short... always had sideburns all of my life," he says.
Which is why you might not recognize David Breunig... as Darlington's Mayor.
"It's quite a privilege. I didn't ever think this would happen," Breunig says.
A number of other local officials were cast as extras. Buck and her friends, meanwhile, hope Depp offers them something extra.
"Hopefully we get to see him and get some autographs later ... be great," Lynn Light says.
Filming is expected to continue back in Columbus tomorrow. But if you plan to stake out the set, I have learned, you need faith, time and a chair couldn't hurt.
"We've got chairs. We'll wait him out," Buck says.
If not in Darlington... some other place, some other time.
"I took a whole week off. I've got four weeks, Johnny," Buck says.
The courthouse was closed but employees were working in their county offices on Wednesday. The courtroom underwent some changes for the shoot...some fixtures were replaced and the windows were given an arched look.
