Testimony is underway in a two–and–a–half year old Fitchburg murder case.
26-year-old Thomas McCants is charged with shooting and killing his girlfriend — 19-year-old Lizette Fountain — in December 2002.
Opening statements in the trial were heard Tuesday morning.
McCants is already serving 11 years in federal prison on cocaine charges.
Testimony is expected to continue through the week.
