An alert cab driver alerts authorities to what appeared to be a bizarre assault.
Police say they arrived at the 200-block of Kennedy Heights on Tuesday to find a 16-year-old girl battered and bleeding, and pieces of her ear on the ground.
According to police, 18-year-old Keane Singleton choked and hit the victim before holding her down and biting off portions of her ear. The cab driver came upon the scene and called authorities.
"As time went on the officers helped attend to the victim who's a juvenile and also started searching for the suspect ... and in doing so they found a pool of blood, and as they followed the pool of blood they noticed fragments of an ear," says Madison police officer Mike Hanson.
The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Singleton is in custody, facing several charges.
