A La Crosse County man who kept his mother's body in a freezer for about five years is found competent to stand trial.
A La Crosse County Circuit made that ruling today during a competency hearing for Philip Schuth.
Police arrested the 52-year-old in April after a standoff at his house. That's when he told authorities he put his mother's body in the basement freezer.
According to court documents, Schuth said he put her in there because he wanted to keep collecting her Social Security checks.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled July 27.
