Five of Madison's downtown parking ramps are about to become lighter and brighter. The first of 67 lighted advertisements has been installed in the ramps.
The city will receive at least $50,000 for the ad space and despite some opponents wanting to keep the ads out of the ramps, the mayor says the ads don't look that bad and will provide advertising for some local attractions.
Mayor Dave Cieslewicz says, "It does not mess up the fine aesthetics of the inside of a parking ramp. As a matter of fact it contributes a great deal to it; there's light, there's color."
The company responsible for selling the space estimates 14,000 people a day will drive by the ads.
The rest of the ads should be installed in the next few weeks.
