Plan to Revamp Fort McCoy Moves Ahead

The federal Base Realignment and Closure Commission approves plan to revamp Wisconsin's Fort McCoy.

The plan would relocate Fort McCoy's 84th Army Reserve Regional Training Center to Fort Knox, and create a new Northwest Regional Readiness Command Headquarters at Fort McCoy, which would absorb the 88th Regional Readiness Command from Minnesota's Fort Snelling.

According to the Pentagon, when all is said and done, the base would suffer a net loss of 231 jobs.

The plan still needs approval from the President and Congress.

The BRAC panel is still deciding whether to move Milwaukee's 440th Airlift Wing to Pope Air Force Base in North Carolina, and whether to add three F-16's to Madison's 115th Fighter Wing at Truax Field.
