A new smoking ban survey is taking aim at findings from a local group that released their results on Wednesday.
On Wednesday, Chamberlin Research Consultants found that out of 605 Madison residents polled by phone, 50% support the smoking ban, and 43% oppose it, with a four-percent margin of error.
Out of the people polled 69% want it to go to referendum, 25% do not, and 6% are undecided.
Thursday, a coalition in favor of the smoking ban released its own findings.
"We found that just under 70% of Madisonians favor the ordinance that is on the books right now with just under 30-percent opposing," says Aaron Doeppers of the campaign for Tobacco Free Kids.
The Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids was among several groups that paid for this latest poll done by the Mellman Group.
