Allied Dr. Evacuee Shelter Preparations

Video will be available shortly.

The preparations on Allied Drive continue as volunteers get ready to welcome 20 families evacuated from the south.

One bus has already left to pick up some of those left homeless by Hurricane Katrina and a small army of volunteers has been working steadily to clean these apartments on Allied Drive. The command center has helpers writing down who can donate what to outfit the new homes.

A small group of doctors and social workers are hoping to fly down to meet the families and prepare them for the trip to Madison. There will be a health care welcome wagon waiting for them Friday morning.

Allied Drive Social Worker Rita Adair says, “We’ve set up a medical team in the Allied area where they'll triaged and given free medical exams. The adults and children will follow up with crisis counselors and psychologists."

Adair says after everyone gets in on Friday they hope to have a big Cajun meal prepared for them on Saturday. However, before that can happen they still need volunteers, donations, and money. Cash donations are being accepted at Dane County Credit Union under the Katrina Disaster Fund. If you are interested in volunteering, call Rita Adair at 217-2219.
