Madison Relief Efforts

Video will be available shortly.

Both Madison and Dane County officials are getting their resources ready for any hurricane victims making their way to the Madison area.

Wednesday afternoon, Madison Mayor Dave Cieslewicz and Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk discussed city and county efforts to coordinate relief for Katrina victims. They’re preparing transportation, housing, food, clothes and public health needs for evacuees.

While there are so many people who've expressed their desires to help, officials remind everyone how important it is to work together. Cieslewicz says, "What we want to make sure is that when people do that they direct all of that energy in the most productive way as possible and the truth is that hopping in the car and driving down there probably isn't the best thing to do now."

So far, there have not been any groups transported to Madison, but officials believe 40 families are currently in the area who got here by their own means and are staying with family and friends.
