100K Lives Saved Campaign

Video will be available shortly.

As health professionals know, it's sometimes hard to save lives. However, there is a national campaign focused on saving 100,000 lives and Wisconsin hospitals are responsible for 6,000 of them.

Campaign leaders and participants believe by following six health care changes 100,000 lives can be saved by June of 2006. The changes include things like preventing surgical site infections, and preventing adverse drug events.

Speakers at today's campaign say even one life lost by a treatment complication means there is work to be done. Donna Sollenberger, President UW Hospital and clinics says, "as leaders we can't be satisfied by anything less, as keepers of the precious and delicate gift of our patients lives and health we owe it to them never to settle for good enough, but instead aim for the very best that's possible."

Thursday's event was held at camp Randall where 6,000 seats were sectioned off by yellow balloons; those seats represent the lives that could be saved in Wisconsin.
