He lived through Hurricane Katrina. And now a Wisconsin native is back in our area sharing his experiences with middle school students.

Jeff Helminger was working in a children's hospital when Katrina hit. He was able to get out of New Orleans in time to gather some of his belongings, and come back to Wisconsin to stay with family.

His sister is a Social Studies teacher at DeForest Middle School, and Jeff thought by sharing his story with her students, he could create awareness.

The students at DeForest Middle School are helping the relief effort as well. They're selling bracelets for a dollar a piece for hurricane victims.

Tonight at ten, we'll explain why even with all that he has lost, Helminger feels he is fortunate to be where he is today.
