A man is in custody this morning after driving while intoxicated and fleeing police.

According to the Fitchburg Police Department, twenty nine-year-old Andrejs Jakovlevs was seen by a Fitchburg police officer heading the wrong way on Fish Hatchery Road. He proceeded to run a red light, and struck the back of a moving squad car at a high rate of speed.

Jakovlevs then entered a residential area and struck a second, parked vehicle while making a turn. He continued driving before being pulled over in the 1000 block of Hackberry Lane in the City of Madison.

Jakovlevs was transported to the Dane County Jail, and has been arrested for OWI, fleeing an officer and two counts of hit and run.

No injuries were reported.

Drunk Driving is wrong and is punishable under law! However, drunk driving is something that really needs to be looked into especiall for first time and one time offenders. They lose their careers and families because of this. I know it was their choice but we should not be so harsh on their lives!

B 5:20pm. You one of those "bleeding heart liberals"? How many DUI's do you have? I have seen your posts on other drunk driving articles and would have to bet you have been arrested on more than one occasion for being an inconsiderate idiot that thinks they are above the law and gets behind the wheel, putting everyone elses lives on the line. This person has the RIGHT to be angry! This state has the WORST record when it come to prosecuting drunk drivers. As a person who has also lost a loved one to an idiot drunk driver, take your bleeding heart and stick it where the sun don't shine!

B- You must be one of them! Drunk drivers get off wat too easy. Have you lost anyone to a drunk?????

I totally agree with anonymous, obviously B hasnt ever been affected in any way by a drunk driver. There needs to be harsher penalties for this, too many people are dying.

Hey B think that anonymous is trying to make a point and don't think that capital letters are really needed! And like they said they will prolly just get a slap on the wrist.

Anonymous 3:22pm. Thanks for offering to be Judge, Jury and Executioner, you may want to study the use of capital letters before you take on capital punishment.
