UPDATED Wednesday, May 14 --- 3:45pm

Police tell NBC15 News -- the mom fell asleep while she was feeding. They have ruled the death accidental.

Updated statement from Beloit Police Department:
The autopsy has been completed on the infant child that died yesterday at Beloit Memorial Hospital. Accidental Positional Asphyxiation pending toxicology results is the tentative cause of death at this point.

The 23 year old mother apparently fell asleep in bed while breast feeding her child and accidentally asphyxiated the child. Evidence found thus far in the investigation is consistent with this preliminary finding.

The investigation remains open. The department is working with the Child Protective Services/Human Services Division to provide assistance to the family and two other young siblings during this time.

Police are investigating the death of a Beloit infant Tuesday. According to the Beloit Police Department, a 3-month-old infant had been bought into the Beloit Memorial Hospital around 1:12 PM and was not breathing.

The infant was pronounced dead just prior to 2:00 PM after being brought to the hospital by the parents.

At this point in the investigations, there is no evidence of foul play, but Beloit Police have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the infant's death. Police detectives and evidence technicians are working on the investigation.

An autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow morning in Madison. The Rock County Coroner's Office and the Beloit Police Department investigators will be in attendance.
