Young Male Arrested for Wednesday Robbery Save Email Print

Monday, May 19, 2008 --- 1:10 p.m.

On Sunday, May 18, 2008, around 3:15 p.m., a 15-year-old male from Madison was arrested for a May 14 robbery.

He was taken into custody after being spotted in a Verona Road grocery store parking lot. The teen has been tentatively charged with Strong-Armed Robbery, and three counts of Attempted Armed Robbery.

Wednesday, May 14, 2008 --- 12:05 p.m.

Around 10:47 p.m. Tuesday night Madison and Shorewood Police responded to a residence in the 400 block of North Segoe Road following a robbery.

The perpetrator had been on a Madison Metro bus with the victim, and followed her off of the bus. The perpetrator first contacted the victim outside of her home and demanded money. She indicated any money she might have would be inside, and he followed her into her residence where several roommates also live. The perpetrator claimed to have a gun although no weapon was seen.

All of the residents told the perpetrator they had no money, but he did get away with a bag containing the original victim's phone and IPOD.

Suspect:
Perpetrator is described as a male, black, late teens-early 20's, 5'4", 130 lbs., wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with a red design on the right side of the sweatshirt. He also had on long, baggie blue jeans.

Hello Amazed! I'm with you all the way on ccw. To: "ME": With ccw, not everyone will be carrying a gun anyway. What's important is the odds will be less likely to victimized of a violent crime. The way I look at it is if someone can't be trusted to carry a gun, they should be in jail or institutionalized anyways. Sometimes, I wish we were living in the "old west". If you were a decent shot, you had a pretty good chance of winning a gunfight! No one is saying that crime will go away overnight. Again, we deserve a chance to protect ourselves. It's going to come down to people taking a stand and just doing it anyways. There is power in numbers and if enough people are armed, what are they going to do? Arrest everyone? It won't work. By golly, the government will finally have to fear the people like they are supposed to! Why does Wisconsin have to always be known for such stupidity? We and Illinois are the only 2 states without ccw! How stupid!

Good thing this is not my son. Believe me, he would rather be going to detention than coming home to me! Thats one of the problems these days, can't whop your kids when they need it in fear of the kid going to school, police or whoever and then the parent being arrested for child abuse. Corporal punishment? You bet and I will be the judge, jury and the person to hand out the punishment!! To anyone who feels this is not the answer, STAY OUT OF MY FAMILY LIFE! This does not concern you at the least. I know it works as I have never had any problems with my kids breaking the law. Sometimes sending the kid to his/her room or the infamous "time-out" just does not work!

"amazed" for your information I travel extensively throughout this country for work, such as California, Mississippi, Alabama, Texas and list goes on and on. I am not asking to take anyones rights away from them. Just making a point that not all people should be walking around with conceled weapons as they may not have the mental ability to think fast in stressful situations. If you think this is the answer to all the crime problems... Shame on you!! You may need to think outside your box and open your eyes to what could happen. We could be going back to the "old west" mentality. I, for one, would feel no safer knowing damn near everyone on the street has a gun and may use it if I look at them wrong. Who and what is a "responsible citizen"? Who is going to determine this? I think there is more to be thought of than just a person wanting to carry a gun.

"me" - I ask that you take some time and travel to other states besides Illinois and Wisconsin. Walk a city street, and say "hi" to someone walking by. Great chance they have the legal ability to get a CCW permit. Better chance they choose not to do so, and almost no chance you would be able to tell one way or the other. Would you walk in fear during your trip because a responsible citizen may be carrying a pistol? Can you really fear a responsible citizen more than a criminal? People who wish the right to carry (I am one) do not want to take on the role of police. We want to be allowed the right to protect ourselves when we can not run away from danger, and the police can not make it to us in time. And people like you would take that right away from us. Shame on you. I'll take the citizen with the gun over the criminal anytime.

Just being realistic. Unlike the cop show watching public that thinks everything can be solve in one episode. Funny you're still living here if things are so bad. You could move to Milwaukee were it is nice and safe (especially at night).

Oh my! We have a couple of MPD fans on here! Before you jump on the band wagon realize that they are one of the biggest laughing stocks in law enforcement at the present time and have been for years! Big deal they caught one young armed robber! That is like the packers going 1 and 13 on the season! or Prince Fielder batting 1 for 5 on the day! Get a clue Madison your police department is in shambles!

Gotcha!!! Nice job MPD. Maybe if most of Madison wouldn't drive like idiots, the MPD would have more time to work on things like this. Slow down and maybe use a turn signal once in a while.

Yes and my opinion is this city would be a lot better off if criminals would quit moving here to seek "a better life". It's making the rest of ours worse. As far as racism the police chief is black as well as many other prominent black males. I am sure there is more to the story of not getting a job, etc.....

Joe Friday, I would say welcome to Madison but feel that would be ignorant to say at this point. Believe it or not, Madison WAS a great place to live at one time. I am sorry to hear you are having a tough go of it here. The way the City Council and the "higher ups" (Mayor Dave and Kathleen Falk) in charge here have made this city an unfriendly place for businesses as well as residents, with their hidden and self serving agendas. As far as the racism goes... I am a white male and will tell you this, I am not envious of any person of color that lives in this city. At times I feel if you are a person of color, specifically a black male, you had better have your running shoes on! And I do not mean that in a bad racist way, just stating colored people in Madison are ALWAYS under the microscope of the authorities! I'm sure to catch heck about that statement but who cares, I am entitled to my opinions!

I hate to tell you "me" but most of these cats are carrying guns anyway! Concealed to Carry dont really matter at this point! You are right these guys that are carrying guns and want like ever to carry guns are just as crazy as the criminals. What ever happened to a real good beat down! I dont get and never will! Im so sick of all this crazy insanity! All I know is we need a better police department and cops that really know how to do Community Oriented Policing! I am here from New Orleans and was so suprised when my family got here of how racist and how weak the police force was. Madison was the worst place I could have decided to come to after the storm! I am a African American man that has never been in trouble in my life but cant find a job or a decent place to live in this city to save my life. This place is scary and the worst part of it is we were always told it was so great!

Great, just what we need, a bunch of citizens carrying concealed weapons and taking on the duties of police officers! Hope you have some training in criminal psychology and how to handle a weapon. If not, you are JUST as dangerous as the criminals. Untrained people trying to make snap decisions when in a stressful situation? Would hate like hell to read about a person claiming to have been protecting themselves, shooting the person, having the person die and finding the shooter being tried for murder. I don't think carrying a weapon is the answer. We should first start by keeping a look-out, being vigilant and reporting an suspicious behavior to the proper authorities. This city does not need a bunch of gun toting vigilantes running around! We have enough to worry about with the criminals!

It would be one thing if the majority of the criminals who assult, rob, vandalize, even murder were caught. but the keystone cops, i mean MPD, couldn't catch a cold if the sickest person in town spit in their face and used their toothbrush. I don't blame anyone on here saying they don't feel safe. The sad thing is, ignorant...people...are sitting around watching all this unfold and will eventually start thinking "wow, they can't catch anyone, i can probably get away with robbing someone/mugging someone" pathetic

If I may add, I understand we may be fearful, but we can not let fear stop us from living the lives we want to live. We can not give criminals that power over us. I say it often - be vigilant, be aware, be cautious. Officer Friendly - I totally agree with you. There is nothing cruel about it. I'm tired of criminals getting all the breaks. It's time the good people get some, and let criminals have it tough.

It sounds like case #1 was purely gang related, drug deal gone bad, or someone owed someone money. The gunshot to the leg is the usual MO for a warning to "pay up or die next time" kind of deal. Being a former big city cop I responded and dealt with more than my share of these "robbery/shootings". Truthfully they are a waste of everyone's time. The only victims are the taxpayers that see the police wasting all their resources on this stuff. You hope as a copper, that if you can't catch the shooter, the so-called victim has a felony warrant or something to feel like you get your money's worth. I don't expect most people to understand this. Unless you're familiar with Police work it sounds cruel. But that is the reality of Policing in a big city. Madison isn't a big city, it sadly has big city problems. And the bad part about it it's not big enough to contain in certain areas like Milwaukee or Chicago. I wish I was the Police Chief or mayor that's for sure.

It's sad that I no longer feel safe taking a walk around Madison or going to the grocery store because I never know who's looking. It may make me afraid but the's people committing the crimes are cowards! Get a job you losers...wait, they probably can't read that...we obviously need to just watch out for ourselves and not point fingers...because it's not going to help anyway!

jeez, madison wants to "roll out the red carpet" for new comers and all we seem to be getting are uneducated....people...who think its ok to jack someone because their favorite rapper raps about it. madison is getting out of control and something needs to be done. again, it comes back to mayor dave and the police department. surely they can think of a way to curve the violence and robberies. no...no theyre just more worried about what makes them look good. hey MPD, if you really want the people of madison to get a **** on, catch some murderers!!!

Again, I am glad that I live "in the boonies" and what is happening is the influx of gangs and low income people from Milwaukee and Chicago. Madison wants to open up its bleeding hearts to these people and this is what happens. I support CCW and the NRA. I am a woman with children and no longer feel safe ANYWHERE when in Madison to run errands. The crimes are happening everywhere.

What is going on in Madison?!!! Robberies everyday, delincuents armed, murders.... This is not even a big city! I feel more and more unprotected and vulnerable... even more than when I visit a big city. I may be able to defend myself, but I don't see the "authorities" are doing much to stop the increasing crime in Madison. What a a shame. Delincuents are just taking over!

3 little letters: CCW. True - concealed carry may not have changed the outcome in either of these situations. But as a supporter of CCW, I believe responsible adults should have the right to choose whether to carry or not; the right to choose how to protect themselves. Say what you will and believe how you wish, but no one has the right to tell me how I can protect myself and my loved ones.
