It's all systems go for resorts and attractions in Wisconsin Dells this weekend.

"So far, with our bookings, it's going to be a pretty good summer," says John Chastan, general manager of Kalahari Resorts.

The Memorial Day holiday sets the pace for the season. Meantime, the price at the pump sets the distance many vacationers are willing to travel.

"The vast majority of our guests are driving to the Dells, says Chastan.

He says room reservations are strong and so is guest spending.

"People are still looking for their family vacations," Chastan adds.

A spokesman for Noah's Ark says sales of season passes are up 5-percent this year. He says more people are searching out price discounts. Something the visitor and convention bureau encourages.

"Instead of trading out the incredible family time they have, they're just making different choices," says Melanie Platt-Gibson of the Wisconsin Dells Visitor and Convention Bureau.

To remain competitive, this summer, attractions are thinking outside-the-box, looking to give customers the most bang for their buck.

"If you stay four nights, you get $40 off each night, the going rate. Plus, at checkout, you get a $40 gas card," says Chastan.

The Kalahari's discount is good through June.

Across the street, Great Wolf Lodge has deals of its own. One offer gives you a free night's stay later in the season.

And, it's not just the big guys pushing promotions.

"They want them to chose their business here in Wisconsin Dells and I know they are very aware of how they can help manage that and help consumers win," says Platt-Gibson.

AAA says a vacation, for a family of four, in Wisconsin is below the national average. It costs around $206 in the Badger State. The national average is $244 a day.

Thats B.S. AAA just said more people will be staying home this weekend and this summer. People say that on purpose because they know people can't afford things like they use to and are trying anything to generate buisness.

hey Anony, Thats what I was thinking as well. In addition I don't understand how these people can say season passes are up when everyone is cutting back on everything.
