**RELEASE FROM UW POLICE**

At approximately 12:30pm on May 24, 2008, UW Madison Police and the Madison Fire Department responded to a fire on the 4th floor of the Humanities building. The contents of a large trash receptacle had been set on fire, as well as papers on four separate bulletin boards. In addition to the fire, a large number of posters and papers were pulled off of bulletin boards in the History Department and near the UW Band offices, and strew on the floor. The preliminary estimate is $5,000 in fire damage, mostly to a wall and ceiling near the trash can.

UW Police and the Madison Fire Department investigated. No suspects were located at the scene and this remains under investigation. Persons who may have information about this crime are asked to call University Police at 264-COPS or the Madison Area Crime Stoppers line at 266-6014.
