UPDATE: Saturday, May 31, 2008 -- 2:30pm

**Release from Dane County Sheriff's Office**

At 1:45am, on Saturday, May 31, 2008, Dane County Sheriff's Deputies, along with Belleville Police and New Glarus Fire Department and EMS, responded to a reported roll-over crash on STH 92, .2 mile north of STH 69 in the Town of Primrose. First arriving units found the driver, and lone occupant, on the ground between the car and a tree.

Investigators on scene believe the 24-year-old driver, Todd J. Podach of Brooklyn, Wisconsin, operating a 2003 Mazda 6S, failed to negotiate a curve on STH 92 while traveling southbound. After traveling through the east ditch for approximately 250 feet, the car began to roll end over end, ejecting Podach out of the car. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the assistant coroner.

The crash remains under investigation. Speed and alcohol appear to be factors in the crash. Podach was not wearing a seatbelt.

To Todd: You called me out of the blue that night after a year. How strage life is, how unexpected. We were always drawn to each other. We were always friends, even after everything. The world experiences a loss because you're not here. I have so many good memories of you, of us, really great times. I think about you daily. You will always be a part of me. You impressed me. I wish comfort to your family and everyone else you impacted in your short but meaningful life. Rest in peace my friend.

There are always people that are so quick to judge someone. I assume that none of you here that are calling Todd an idiot or saying how many times bla bla bla. I new this Guy, I served with him in I raq. He was a wonderful sole. I loved him like a brother and he would do anything for anyone. I want you all to think about what this man did for you for 3 years of his life. He protected your freedoms so that one day you could call him an idiot. Todd god rest your sole, you will be greatly missed

It is understandable that a bad decision was made and Todds friends and family are suffering the consequences. Some of you can't help but to put comments out reminding people not to drink and drive, but who are you trying to convince? Show some respect to his friends and family. Todd was a great man. He was willing to sacrifice his life for this country. Show some remorse for his loved ones and keep your comments to yourself if you don't have anything nice to say about him. Friends and family do read these. Think about how you would feel if this was your son, grandson, brother, uncle, or cousin. Todd was all of those to many people. Respect the mourning relatives. If you want to preach about drunk driving then join MADD or SADD. Your comments on a news website do nothing but dig the knife a little deeper in those who are already suffering enough.

While it is sad that a young man is dead, it was a completely preventable death. That is what is most sad. This young man made a very poor choice and it cost him his life. I can only hope people will start to learn from all these senseless deaths that COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED!! My thoughts and prayers are with his family who are now suffering from his bad choice.

A young man who survived a tour in Iraq is dead and most of you have nothing better to do than leave a comment about what an "idiot" he was. Good people make bad decisions. Get over yourselves.

How many times have you made a mistake in life???? Todd made one and it took his life. Let's try to remember what Todd sacrificed for us while fighting in Iraq for 3 years. i don't think I would handle 3 years of war very well.....how bout you? Thanks for your sacrifices Todd.

When are people going to get it through their thick heads, if you are going to drink, don't drive and if your with someone who is drinking, don't ride with them.

Maybe I am getting cold but how many of these do we have to hear about before we change our behavior? "SPEED AND ALCOHOL APPEAR TO BE FACTORS"
