According to a press release from the Whitewater Police Department:
At approximately 6 a.m. Tuesday morning, a 22-year-old subject broke into a Water Control Tower at Starin Park in the City of Whitewater. The subject was attempting to damage the water control system when he was interrupted by a Water Superintendent. The subject then attacked the Superintendent causing multiple injuries.
Prior to entering the tower the Superintendent had called police to advise of a possible intrusion. City of Whitewater Police Officers and UW-Whitewater Campus Police Officers responded quickly to the scene, stopped the assault, and took the subject into custody. The Water Superintendent was transported by ambulance to Fort Atkinson Hospital. His condition has not been determined.
The assailant is confined in the Walworth County Jail on a variety of felony charges including Burglary While Armed (the subject was in possession of a knife), Substantial Battery, Battery to a Public Officer, Damage to Property, and Disorderly Conduct.
At no time was the water system compromised as it is ultimately controlled at another location. It was determined the subject had been drinking alcohol prior to the burglary, but no motive for the break-in and assault has been determined at this time. The investigation is continuing.
