Your in our prayers the people in Rock County. Where I still have family, friends. Don't give up hope. I check things out on the Internet often due to living far from home. The only saying Don't give up reach out and help each other.

as a resident of rock county and having to evacuate my home because of the flooding I would like to say to the people who dont live in the flood area. Please be more considerate of us as you are driving around assessing the damage we as residents who are devistaded already by the damage and trying to get to or from our homes to save what we can. Please be courtious enough to move out of the way we are trying to get our things out of our homes or get sand bags to our homes it is difficult when you have cars stopped on the roads taking pictures or just looking at things. Time is of the essence for us so please either stop and ask us if we need help or be sympathetic enough to give us our space. these are our homes what we like you have worked hard for and we are just trying to save what we can.

The tornado that went threw Stoughton was in 2005. What do they say, practice what you preach.

I am very sad for everybody in the terrible time.We will get through it but to bad thats all we here is about lake delton. Its all about money. If we had a government that cared about people maybe some of this could have been prevented.Do they think this could never happen. I have been going to wisconsin for over 35 years and there is a big issue with all the dams big or small. Nobody worrys about it untill its to late.I know people in all parts of wisc. And just heard on the comments that wonewoc is under water wher a friend of mine lives . Didnt here it from the news probably cause its not lake delton. !!!

Posted by: MIN Location: Madison on Jun 13, 2008 at 04:45 PM
You know the whole thing about Lake Delton vs. Rock Springs/Lake Delton is vaguely familiar. The tornado down in Stoughton in 2003 was like that....the media only focused on the few ritzy homes demolished in the golf course area, rather than the entire middle class neighborhoods to the east that were almost completely wiped out. Money makes the world go round.

auto owners insurance covers flooding

Posted by: LaValle Location: Madison on Jun 12, 2008 at 09:47 AM
Regarding the LaValle Dam, my dad lives on Lake Redstone and he said the dam was still holding. This was as of 1430 6/11. I haven't heard anything today so it must still be true. He said that the pizza place in LaValle is not damaged, but everything else downtown is wet due to the Baraboo River right there. There's little to no way into Cazenovia. Water is flooded up covering the seats in the Reedsburg Theater. I have heard that the part of Lake Redstone that was hurt the worst was area towards the north end. Douglas Road is washed out.

There is seperate insurance that needs to be purchased to cover flooding. Its too bad that you must be in a "flood zone" to even purchase this insurance. This is why most of us are out of luck.

A lot of rumors are going around, but the Jefferson dam has not broken. You can keep up to date on the city web site Jeffersonwis.com or gojefferson.com

I also heard the Jefferson dam broke about 4:30 or 5:00. Not sure of damage but heard they were getting people away from hospital area.

I was in LaValle today 6/10 and the water is receeding Fishy's Bar and River Mill are not flooded anymore (as long as the water does not rise again. I spent the day there cleaning. It still is up to the back of the bar though. You can get to LaValle by back roads but not down the Main St.

Posted by: Lori Location: Fort Atkinson on Jun 10, 2008 at 05:06 PM
Has anyone heard about the Jefferson Dam? I heard it has broken. Any confirmation?

Anybody koow how the Dutch Hollow dam is doing? Is the water rising or receeding in LaValle

Posted by: M Location: Sauk County on Jun 10, 2008 at 02:06 PM
The dam on Lake Redstone is still holding. My family has a house on the lake and the water is very high right now, completely covering piers and partially filling our boathouse. LaValle is completely under water and pretty isolated, most in not all of the roads are closed in that area.

Don't forget about the other towns that have flooding besides Lake Delton. That's all it seems the talk is about. I have not once heard on the news how Rock Springs, LaValle, North Freedom, and lots and lots more are under water. I didn't even know how bad the town of LaValle was until someone e-mailed me a picture because all the talk is is about Lake Delton. Or how there really is no way in or out of Rock Springs. I know someone who lives in Rock Springs and could not even find a road not flooded to get out to even get to work. A good portion of Reedsburg is under water. There is no way through Reedsburg since both bridges are out. I do really feel for Lake Delton, but don't forget about everyone else. We're all in this together. People are working hard helping everyone out, even through the night, to evacuate people and their belongings. People should be seeing this as well.

Posted by: reedsburg Location: West side on Jun 10, 2008 at 02:06 AM
Not with standing that Lake Delton has completely emptied into the Wisconsin River, it's beyond anyone living in and around Reedsburg how it and other Baraboo River areas have been for the most part completely overlooked. Nearly a quarter of the homes in Reedsburg and even some of its downtown area are still dealing with rising water (both directly and indirectly) . And Rock Springs I'm sure is no better if not worse. The thing is unless you own a helicopter you wouldn't know the difference. Many of the area roads and even highways are closed. Many more people are being pushed out by this flooding then has yet to really be mentioned. While most can appreciate the loss of an important lake and thankfully only a few homes in Lake Delton; it is curious why, at 15-20 minutes away, nothing is shown of these areas and it's residents/communitys hardships.

Posted by: K Location: K on Jun 9, 2008 at 11:08 PM
I agree that the focus should be on the victims, but many of those victims are also business's on the lake. I believe there are around 20 resorts on that lake, and the Ducks and Tommy Bartlett's are also. These people have no jobs now...the resorts will lose business, etc. Either way, it is awful. My parents house in Reedsburg has around 2 feet of water on the first floor already. I feel for everyone!!

Posted by: Dave Location: CA on Jun 9, 2008 at 10:45 PM
RE: Lake Redstone I read a 20ft section of the dam has been damaged and saw video of the opposite end of the lake with water running fast. Another blog said "it doesn't look good" but no details.

Posted by: Anonymous on Jun 9, 2008 at 10:32 PM
Why is there nothing about Rock Springs? People there have lost everything.

Posted by: Teri Location: Cobb on Jun 9, 2008 at 08:50 PM
I would think that the Gov would be more concerned about the flood victims and what is going to happen next instead of worrying about getting the lake refilled ASAP.

Posted by: Jeff Location: Lake Redstone on Jun 9, 2008 at 07:36 PM
Any update on the Lake Redstone Dam?

Posted by: Melissa Location: portage on Jun 9, 2008 at 12:36 PM
flood insurance is a federally funded organization. your insurance companies have no say or control over flood insurance. that is why no insurance company carries on homeowner ins.

Posted by: Larry Location: Wonewoc on Jun 9, 2008 at 12:30 PM
It is ironic that Hillsboro opened the Dam to relieve it's water problem. With high water in Wonewoc already at our door raised it more. Its sad that local goverment and state officals don't work together to help each other to prevent flooding. Each town or city looks at it self not others. Flooting away a resident of Wonewoc.

Posted by: Tammy Location: Lake delton on Jun 9, 2008 at 10:37 AM
I heard that Lake Delton Dam has broken or is close to breaking. County A is closed, the dam will effect the Lower Dells (wisc. river)

Posted by: Anonymous on Jun 9, 2008 at 09:56 AM
Susan, homeowners insurance does not cover flood damage becuase it is so costly. It's not just American Family, NO insurance company covers flooding. Your policy very clearly states that, you should read it and be an informed consumer. You have to buy flood insurnace from www.fllodsmart.gov

Posted by: Old Man River Location: Madison on Jun 9, 2008 at 09:55 AM
Susan! Why? Because it is not their fault that you built a home by a river or on a flood plain! Thats why!

Posted by: Susan Garcia Location: Reedsburg on Jun 8, 2008 at 11:30 PM
With all this flooding our basement is full of water and our walls with many cracks...Why is it that insurance companies don't wan't to cover flooding? One in which is American Family Insurance here in Reedsburg..Whats the point of having insurance when they wont help when many are in need!!

Posted by: K.F. Location: Baraboo on Jun 8, 2008 at 11:10 PM
My parents evacuated their house on Granite Ave in Reedsburg tonight because of the flooding. The Baraboo River is literally in their back yard and now the front yard and into the street. They called local hotels and only one would accept pets. The Voyageur Inn has a no pet policy and decided to stick with it even though fellow residents are in need of help. Quality Inn of Reedsburg accepted pets and on top of that gave them a discount. I believe the Voyageur Inn is owned by a local resident of Reedsburg and that makes it even more disappointing that the company would not reach out to fellow residents and make an acception to allow pets also.
