Sources: Favre Has "Itch" to Come Out of Retirement Save Email Print

A | A | A

UPDATE: Thursday, July 3, 2008 --- 8:40 a.m.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- Brett Favre (fahrv) insists he's thrown his last pass despite reports to the contrary.

ESPN was reporting Wednesday that Favre is considering coming out of retirement. But the former Green Bay Packers quarterback has dismissed the report, telling a Mississippi newspaper Web site that "it's all rumor."

The paper reported that Favre sent a text message saying there's "no reason" for a media frenzy.

ESPN reported that an unidentified Packers source said the 38-year-old Favre told coach Mike McCarthy in the past two weeks that he has the itch to play. Cornerback Al Harris said on ESPN's NFL Live that Favre also made similar comments to him.

Favre retired March 6th after a 17-year career.

I had "the itch" once. A little ointment cleared it right up though!

It's a GAME for God sake.. and I will scream if Favre keeps making the front page of the paper etc... Bring Johnny Dep back.. LOL

An old Favre (2007 passer rating per NFL.com) is better than a Grossman, Jackson, Harrington, Garcia, Huard, Hasselbeck, McNabb, Warner, Brees, Cutler, Schaub, Palmer, Anderson, Rivers, Campbell, Griese, Boller, Culpepper, Kitna, Carr, Pennington, Collins, Leftwich....should I continue?

Farve is old. He needs and deserves to move on.

With Aaron Rodgers remarks, it would be appreciated if he would pack his bags and go back to the desert.

I don't know why everyone is so worried. Brohm will be a great quarterback.

Rodgers stupid comment to SI makes me want to have Farve back. Rodgers should keep his mouth shut until he proves that he can do something for more than 3 quarters.

When Brett scratches an itch on his neck, the spotlight starts to flicker. If it wasn't greatness, no one would care. This is not an opinion, this is fact.

Posted by: Common Sense on Jul 3, 2008 at 10:35 AM
To Sensai: Speaking of (NO) common sense, You state it's greatness that earns a person to be in the spot light, Not So. By your comment, your saying that every criminal that has been in the spotlight is great, too. Some people get addicted to the spotlight, it seems when all the attention moved away from him, he decides to make a comment, knowing it would bring the focus back onto him. I'm happy for you, that you are able to hold a another person in such high regard, feel he shines on and off the field, remember, that's your opinion. Mine is, he has had his time, it is now time for him to let go and allow another person to have their talent and accomplishments reconized, too.

It's only been a few months and this garbarage has reared its head at least twice. Jason Wilde from the WI State Journal is part to blame in our area for this. Anyone see Al Harris on ESPN this a.m.? Al had been saying Brett told him he wanted to come back. When he was pressed by the anchor person about what "exactly" Favre commented to him, Al got a little nervous and then admitted what he (Al) had been telling people, were not Brett's exact words and his (Al's) opinion of what they meant. MEDIA: Leave Favre alone. This was the lead story on many news outlets and it was a complete waste.

Anyone who responds to a "spotlight theory" You people are so far outta touch with reality. It's not about being in the spotlight. It's about a guy who dedicated his life in doing what he does best. And he obviously wants to and still is able to play football. However, The Packers entire organization have the thinking "Brett Take us to the Superbowl" They are depending on 1 person to do that. Who else can have that burden be put on them year after year? As far as Mr. Rodgers. LOL!! He was already injured and out. The Packers actually went to Dante Culpepper, in my book thats not having a whole heck of alot of confidence in Aaron Rodgers. If Brett wants to come home, they should do nothing short of "ROLLING OUT THE RED CARPET"!

I think the media makes way too much out of any comment made by Brett Favre in passing. If you were retired and told a friend that you had the "itch" to go back and do what you've done before, it doesn't mean that you will. Some things are just hard to get out of your system. I think the media should talk to the person making the comment (in this case Brett Favre) before they start spreading false news. Accuracy in your stories should be the number one priority...not hear say!

To: (NO) Common Sense, The spotlight needs to be earned and Brett has no problem making it shine on him on or off the field. Lesson: How a spotlight works...find someone great and you shine the light on them. If there is no greatness, there can be no spotlight.

I love Brett more than the common fan and I hope he doesn't come back. I will need counseling for sure. It's like an ex-lover. I'm just getting over him leaving and now he wants back? Of course it would be wonderful, like the good ol days, but I know it will never last! He will just leave again and I can't take the pain! I wish he knew how this plays with people's emotions. BUT this isn't even a story! Brett said this is ALL RUMORS so why are we still talking about it? I'm also confident Rodgers quote was taken out of context or would at least sound better if the question that prompted that response was also printed. It was probably something like..."what do you say to all the idiot fans that compare you to Favre and say you suck and we don't want you?"...The media really does suck sometimes.

Brett Farve, Brett Farve that's all the news talked about when he was making, then made his decision to retire. I think the only itch he needed iching, was the need to be in the spot light again. Farve should spend his retirement years enjoying his family and let the spot light move on to another person.

Jealousy rearing it's ugly head. He is still a top 10 QB in any league. He's more than earned the right to do what he wants.

Posted by: Anonymous on Jul 3, 2008 at 07:06 AM
Other reporters are talking to Bretts mom and she said because of how the Packers treated him the last couple of years she doesn't think he'll be back. I think Aaron Rodgers should go back to cleaning out horse stables, he is better at that than throwing the football.

Posted by: Anonymous on Jul 3, 2008 at 02:02 AM
Wow i cant beleive i would see people talk like that about Brett Favre, after everything he has done. Give him a break and as far as Rodgers goes give him a chance,he hasnt even played a fulle game yet. Hey TR i'd like to see you on the field on opening day, you are just as arrogant!! If you dont like it than dont watch them play. Simple

Posted by: Anonymous on Jul 2, 2008 at 10:34 PM
BERT JUST RELIZE YOUR TO OLD FOR FOOTBALL STAY OUT

Posted by: Stefanie Location: Madison on Jul 2, 2008 at 09:26 PM
Brett, loved you when you played. Cried when you FINALLY said good-bye. No doubt will miss you this upcoming season. But, you are done. Watching you the last couple of years was painful. You made the decision to retire. Be a man. Stick with that decision. Once the "itch" passes, and it will after we get through summer training camp and the kickoff of the fall season, you will be talking about retiring all over again. Get a hobby and stick with it. Thanks for the good times. Gone but not forgotten.

i hope favre comes back. Aaron Rodgers did ok against the cowboys, but ok doesn't cut it.

Posted by: Anon Location: Madison on Jul 2, 2008 at 08:21 PM
hmmmm.. has anyone thought that the anonymous person close to the packers could have been aaron rodgers trying to get the media off of his comment? I think its a distinct possibility.

Posted by: Don Location: Arlington on Jul 2, 2008 at 07:10 PM
Oh, PLEASE come back! I would enjoy seeing you FAIL! The Packers will go 9-7 with or without Favre.

Posted by: TR on Jul 2, 2008 at 05:24 PM
Well Aaron Rodgers sure isn't too happy. And I quote from the news " People should either get on board now or keep their mouths shut" WOW!! I though very little of him before, but now he's just trash. Go somewhere else fool!! We don't want or need an arrogant punk like that on the Packers. Gee, did I hear this somewhere before on a different post? The word "threatened and jealousy" sound familiar? Get lost Karen Rodgers, you'll break a nail and be out for the season anyways.

Posted by: D Location: Madison on Jul 2, 2008 at 05:02 PM
God no we dont need him back, he retired and he should be held to that decision

Posted by: Joel Location: Madison on Jul 2, 2008 at 04:23 PM
