According to a news release from the Madison Police Department:

On July 3, 2008, around 3:25 p.m., a Madison Police South District Officer saw a young man walking away from Penn Park towards Park Street. The officer had just reviewed a surveillance tape of a strong-armed robbery that had occurred at the South Transfer Point on the night of June 30th.

The officer recognized the young man as being one of several perpetrators involved in the June 30th attack. In that crime, an 18-year-old Fitchburg man was punched, kicked and robbed of his bus pass and cell phone at 10:35 p.m.

The teen was arrested for Strong-Armed Robbery. Officers of the South District are in the process of identifying others involved in the crime, and say images taken by surveillance cameras at the South Transfer Point are greatly aiding in their investigation.

Suspect: male, age 16, Madison
Suspect was arrested and taken to the Juvenile Reception Center on a tentative charge of Strong-Armed Robbery.

The police in Madison need to shape up or ship out. This also goes for the parents of these little criminals. The reason the police won't deal with this is because they don't want to be profiling blacks. Madison needs some vigilante justice, the cops sure as hell can't seem to get a handle on things around here. People are getting fed up around here.

I totally agree with Anon 3:19 PM. Whatever happend to the curfew laws? When I was that age NOT that long ago Kids under 18 couldn't be outside after 9 w/o their parents if they were they got fined. Maybe the mayor could look a little closer into getting actual good cause laws passed in this city to help better our community instead of wasting so much money on a "Greener Madison." Frankly you won't have a Madison if it keeps the steady crime increase we are currently in. And YES I understand Madison in a whole isn't as bad as Chicago but we are only like what 1/3 of the size of Chicago. There are simple laws that can help in the efforts to keep Madison safe for all. I say bring back Curfews & make PARENTS be responsible for their kids actions. Shoot if that were me or one of my brothers my dad would have called the police on us, HE would have beat our A** then made us go to the person we did it to & let them beat our A**. Wake up Parents, teach your kid right from wrong!!!

What the hell is wrong with all of these kids in madison. The parents need to put their foot down and start putting their kids in the place! What kind of parent would let their kid out that late at night on south park street, a careless one. This is a clear example for all parents that they should stop this sort of behavior at a young age, then maybe they can grow up and be normal members of society. People I would like to hear some comments in reference to this.

He's probably part of the huge group of boys that age that hang out at the Bus Stop, McDonalds, and Mobile on Park Street EVERY NIGHT. Hey, MPD sit on your front walk way any night of the week at about 9:00-9:30 pm and I bet you find every one of those that were involved and maybe also catch some other criminals. Sad that this happens pretty much on the front door step of a police station and yet huh? that can't figure out why crime is so bad in this neighborhood. Gee maybe it's because the S Madison Police Department ignores the petty stuff which unfortunately turns into much more serious crime. What's it going to take to get this specific police district to wake up and pay attention?
