Tuesday, July 8, 2008 --- 9 a.m.

WONDER LAKE, Ill. (AP) -- Authorities in northern Illinois have charged a man in a boat crash that left a Wisconsin woman dead and injured another person.

Fifty-three-year-old Rick McGuire of Wonder Lake, Illinois, is charged with operating a boat while under the influence of alcohol.

An autopsy yesterday found that 21-year-old Nicole Jurgens of Elkhorn died of trauma to the chest, abdomen and pelvis after a boat crash on Wonder Lake early Sunday.

Conservation police say they are investigating the crash and reconstructing the scene to find out exactly what happened.

McGuire had three passengers on his boat. Jurgens was on a boat with one other person, who also was injured.

Another drunk driver; this one killed her uncle last August 11; see how we have to get them off the roads AND waterways? Man gets 10 years in drunken driving death ED TRELEVEN 608-252-6134 June 16, 2008 If Michael Fenolio had killed someone the first time he was caught driving drunk, his sentence might have been shorter Monday. Instead, a Dane County circuit judge said, Fenolio will spend 10 years in prison for killing a motorcyclist while driving drunk during what was his fifth conviction. Fenolio, 29, of McFarland, will also spend 15 years on extended supervision after his release from prison -- the maximum period of supervision he could have received -- because of his long history of drinking and driving, Judge Daniel Moeser said. Fenolio was driving east on Cottage Grove Road on Aug. 11 when he cut a corner while turning left onto Sprecher Road. In doing so, he turned into the path of an oncoming motorcycle driven by Michael W. Jurgens, 50, of Madison, who had the right-of-way. Jurgens ' motorcycle hit Fenolio 's car, sending Jurgens flying 40 feet from the crash. Jurgens was pronounced dead at the scene. His death has devastated his family, not only his former wife and his children but his brother, John, who said that for the first time in years he will be deprived of his annual summer camping trip with his brother. He said that the day his brother died, they had talked by telephone and left off deciding to talk again the next week. "Then I got the phone call that Sunday that broke my heart, " John Jurgens said. For Jurgens ' father, Al Jurgens, getting the news of his son 's death was like reliving the traffic death of another son 37 years ago. "It still hurts, " he said.

Can we please wait for the facts to come out about this case? I know Mr. McGuire; he is a dedicated school district employee(not a teacher) who deserves the benefit of the doubt. The accident occurred after midnight, who knows what may have led to the accident. While I regret that Ms. Jurgens was taken so early in life, we must not jump to the assumption that this was a reckless act caused by massive amounts of drinking. I will wait to pass judgement until the toxicology reports show the BAC levels for all parties involved, and until authorities reveal the actions leading to the unfortunately fatal accident. Please consider doing the same.

anon at 12:12 what is absurd is your bashing of there comment. they are entitled to there opinion as are u. but most of what they say is fact. and yes this state has way to mayn drunk drivers weather its boats cars or whatever. he will get house arrest and probation at most. that is another sad fact.

The guy who killed the bike rider was on mushrooms not on weed. Maybe you should get your facts right before you post

It is still up to the individual to make the decision. Thousands (millions?) people drink every day and don't cause things like this. They make the decision to stop before they get out of control. Maybe they get lucky, but after you finish eating your cheetos from your 10:12 "munchies", maybe you should re-read your comment, and realize how absurd it sounds.

how sad. i find it funny weed is still illegal "no deaths ever in history caused by it- that is a fact. but hundreds of idiots every month get drunk, killsomeone and get a slap on the wrist. bout time they outlaw alchy here. nothing good has ever come from it. any nothing good will ever come from it. only reason it is legal is because of the higher taxes on booze. nice the gov can spare some people each week to death from it just to make a few bucks. such a shame.
