CrimeTracker 15: Two Overnight Burglaries in Middleton Save Email Print

A | A | A

Friday, July 18, 2008 --- 8:20 a.m.

According to a news release from the Middleton Police Department:

The Middleton Police Department is investigating the overnight burglaries to two homes, both of which were occupied by sleeping residents. One occured in the 6300 block of Countryside Dr. and the other occured no the 6200 block of Elmwood Ave. In each case, the suspect(s) entered the homes through unlocked doors. One homeowner had her purse and contents stolen, including credit cards, debit cards and cash. It does not appear at this time that anything is missing from the second house. One of the victims heard noises around 3:00 AM, which she now believes in retrospect is when the burglary occurred.

The Police Department is urging all homeowners, apartment dwellers and business owners to secure their property. At this time of year, it is easy to leave windows open, doors open and unlocked, garage doors open and cars unlocked. Even if the air conditioning is turned off, doors need to be locked and windows secured so that they can only be opened an amount small enough to prevent someone crawling through them.

If anyone has any information on these crimes, or any crimes, contact the Middleton Police Department at 827-1000, Tipster: 827-1007 or Madison Area Crime Stoppers: 266-6014.

The Middleton Police Department is available to provide crime prevention tips and security surveys to residents and businesses owners.

Not only do we live in a different Madison (and Middleton), but we live in a different world/society altogether from the world & society of 30,40,50yrs ago. Little personal responsibility, always blaming SOMEbody for one's own problems. There isn't a SOMEbody, folks. Take care of yourself, and treat others as you want to be treated ALL the time. We're a society of selfish folks, and I'm not just talking about the folks committing crimes, either. When was the last time you volunteered your time for others, or just did something because it was the right, just and kind thing to do? Think about it, and get a grip! Signed, Got a Grip (who spent all day Saturday volunteering on behalf of the recent apt fire victims)

Different Madison, that's for sure, considering the "urban" invasion of the last decade.

to the officer, thank you for your service. no one has said it better INSTEAD OF LOOKING FOR SOMEONE TO BLAME start taking some accountability and common sense measures to prevent the crimes you accuse the cops of doing nothing about. MORONS!!!!

There was a strong arm robbery in the Woodman's west parking lot last night. I bet it is the same black woman. She slugged a white woman, took her money and jumped into a silver suv.

As a police officer in the Madison area I find it very unfortunate the police need to remind people to protect themselves. I'm sure there will be plenty of cop haters responding saying "Well if you don't protect us we have to." Newsflash: For every cop there's on average 15,000 people. That's a bit much to protect and serve all at the same time. I really hate responding to these types of calls as the victims are shocked they were a victim. Very similar to a drunk student walking downtown at night, alone, in a dark alley and gets jumped. "I can't believe this happened." Are you kidding me? Three parts to a crime, a suitable place, a willing offender, and a suitable victim. Remove any one of them, you lose the crime. If people would learn to protect themselves and their assets, we'd be closer to having a safe community. Cops are trying to reduce crime by arresting offenders, but we can't arrest them all. Start taking some personal responsibility Madison Area!

yeah all these burglerys over last few years made us put in a alarm. love it. someone tried break in a few weeks ago but was only greeted by a angry rot and a shrieking alarm. alarms are cheap to install and even cheaper to run. id reccomend one to any home or condo owner. gives great piece of mind that u wont wake up with some sick downstairs going through ur crap.

Good advice. Sad we have to do it, but good advice. An audible alarm would be good, too. Then if someone still gets in, the alarm will wake you, and you'll have time to call 911 and find a way to protect yourself and keep safe.

Please tell me why anyone should EVER have to remind you to lock your doors??? I have only empathy for you no sympathy, please use just an ounce of common sense. We live in a differant world.
