EVANSVILLE, Wis. (AP) -- A former football player at Evansville High School and her mother have filed a federal lawsuit alleging discrimination by coaches and staff.

Ivyanne Elborough broke her clavicle as a freshman member of the football team. The lawsuit alleges Elborough was injured because she was told to practice without safety equipment, even though the rest of the team was wearing gear during blocking drills.

The lawsuit is filed in federal court in Madison. It asks for compensation for pain, suffering, mental and emotional distress and expenses, but doesn't specify an amount.

Evansville School District Administrator Heidi Carvin says school officials don't believe the claims are true.

I wish people would get the entire story! This girl was denied entry into the locker room to get her pads. The coach should have got her some from the boys locker room instead of allowing her to practice without them. This screams negligence!!!

As a firefighter of 25 years, I never go into my work environment without my fire gear- why the hell would this child disregard her own safety and health and go in if she knew she didn't have all the proper equipment on? this is a bull sh** money deal for sure! And the mother should be ashamed for not buying her daughter all the equipment necessary for the sport she was playing, and excuse me, if you don't have the proper protective gear, you shouldn't go into a dangerous situation!! her own fault, and she should be ashamed for raising such an idiot child, and setting a money hungry example for her!

no coach that is worth anything would ever allow a player no practice without all of the right gear on no matter what.
