Madison police say an unidentified male has been found dead on a porch after a night of drinking.

A police spokesman tells NBC 15 it happened just before 5 pm, Saturday, on 144 North Breese Terrace.

Authorities say the caller, who lives at the address, told them the two had been moving into the house Friday and spent the night drinking.

Neighbors say the victim didn't live at the house.

Police say they don't suspect foul play.

The Dane County coroner has scheduled an autopsy for Sunday morning.

Stay with NBC 15 and nbc15.com for continuing coverage.

Travis & Renneh: 1st, death is a natural end to the biological cycle called life, it is going to happen to all creatures existing right now, at this point in time, so get over yourself & your self righteous rant about my callous opinion of death. Talk about disrespect for the dead Renneh, at least I wasn't one of the people who left his body laying on a porch and didn't call for help for him! Travis- absolute moron? absent minded ignorant comments? My comment was well thought out thank you & it is a shame you are too shallow minded to appreciate the philosophical ground that it covers. Moron? again, who are you Travis? are you one of the idiots who left his dead body laying out for the world to see? nice that you all kept track of a friend who had such an obviously precarious medical condition! with friends like you, watching out for his "special circumstances" only you know about- it's a wonder he made it at all! your friend is dead, & his friends left him on a porch- some love!

Posted by: Travis on Aug 24, 2008 at 10:41 PM
Just know it wasn't alcohol and there is details that only his friends and family know and as Rennah said it is only a matter of time until the truth comes out. This goes above what the news is reporting.

Posted by: Greg P on Aug 23, 2008 at 10:01 PM
Ok, now we have two people telling us this had nothing to do with alcohol, but conveniently forgetting to tell us what it DOES have to do with. What was the cause of death? The coroner doesn't know, since he had to send fluids for toxicology testing, but you do. So, give.

First of all, Deke: you're right we do have freedom of speech and that's why I'm saying this: you are pathetic. I hope you enjoyed your little rant about how meaningless death is to you. God forbid that somebody talks about you, or someone you love who has died, the way you so callously talked about John. Way to show just how ignorant you are! Also, Susan: you talk like someone who knows exactly what happened, when, in fact, you don't know anything. Don't act like you do. It's only a matter of time. The truth will come out.

Posted by: Travis on Aug 22, 2008 at 06:48 PM
John was a very close friend of mine and this had absolutely NOTHING to do with alcohol. The papers and news are reporting wrong. To the people that are responding positively it's appreciated but to the people who are absolute morons like Deke and the post above you should think twice before you leave such absent minded ignorant remarks.

It's a conspiracy! See, the coroner is dragging out the release of the cause of death to make people wonder, during the time that classes are starting- and the students are all freaked, maybe it is disease, maybe it is bad alcohol, or food poisoning- so that keeps them buying food from the UW, not drinking alcohol, and getting checked at student health services (which is billing insurance companies & such) prescribing pills, students are shopping downtown to buy disinfectants, then these people release a story about a kid dying from menangitis, now you have a menangitis scare, so students go to get menangitis vaccinations where? at UW student health, or UW hospital! You'll notice it wasn't the UW that brought up Menangitis, it was someone who lost a family member- b/c if the UW brought it up, it would violate the monopoly statutes by creating a false demand for a product they're providing to students for money! meanwhile people are still wondering what killed him so they buy stuff

It's really wrong to say that St Peter is some bar joke teller, under these circumstances.

Posted by: anonymous Location: here on Aug 20, 2008 at 07:37 AM
wow, sucks to be him. hope he got paid for helping before he croaked.

Posted by: Deke Location: Madison on Aug 19, 2008 at 04:31 PM
People die all the time- so what- dude croaked on a porch, instead of in some trees off a road in a ditch, or while swimming in one of the lakes, or inside a parked car b/c he was too drunk to drive (if he had been drunk, which may not be the case, but just using it as an example of someone who died recently)... so dude's pushing daisies- big freaking deal. bag him, tag him, fed ex his butt home to the family! ashley, you're a hipocrite! by saying people with neg. comments are heartless, you yourself become heartless because you just called someone a negative name (heartless)- it is called a paradox, look it up. Tony, it's called freedom of speech- don't like it, either move to China or don't read what people post! you can't stop people from having opinions, all you can do is ignore the ones that pi$$ you off! Did you find it yet Ashley? try "circular logic".

Anonymous why don't you bless us with your inside knowledge? What was the cause of death?

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 19, 2008 at 09:58 AM
This is anonymous at 9:50, I know there are students over 29, however I knew who this was and he was NOT a UW student. So thanks Blake for the statistics on median age of college students in Wisonsin. And to Susan, it's possible, unfortunately with this man it's going to come out that it had little to nothing to do with alcohol, but you're right, their actions were irresponsible.

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 19, 2008 at 09:46 AM
If you look at the UW Student online registry you will find he was not affiliated with the UW. Not saying anything about age, just making a statement that he was not affiliated.

Being able to comment on stories like this is totally wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: Blake Location: Madison on Aug 18, 2008 at 06:30 PM
To Anonymous- I am 42 years old and a graduate student in pursuit of my master's degree- in the major I have chosen, there have been 12 students in their fifties and above since I started 4 years ago as an undergrad- two years in my undergrad studies, and two years in graduate school- so drop the whole "how could a 29 year old be a student"! there are a growing number of students over age 30 in colleges all through Wisconsin! The average age of the student population at the state's technical colleges like Madison Area Tech. College (MATC) is around 32 years old! (I think it was 32.8 last I checked) so off your giddy up about age sonny or little missy! school isn't for the young, it is for the curious!

How can 29 year old people not be students? I did not know there was an age limit!

Posted by: Susan on Aug 18, 2008 at 03:22 PM
Oh right anonymous at 9:50, this had nothing to do with alcohol. After a night of drinking and the people in the house too wasted/hung over to even get up before 5pm to find him dead on the porch. No, it had nothing to do with alcohol.

It's a tragic loss for his family and friends. Those are who we should all keep in our thoughts. Gracie, seems your promoting a nanny state. While you're hoping, keep in mind that a government that can care for your every need is powerful enough to take everything from you.

Who’s to say it was not dehydration er heat stroke? If he was moving stuff.

Posted by: Harry Location: Madison on Aug 18, 2008 at 01:06 PM
I feel sorry for the family of this man, who unnecessarily may endure comments like the below (and this one). It's bad enough just to die, without the judgement of all the do-gooders. Let's not judge him....let St. Peter do it.

No matter what the cause was, how does a dead body lay on a porch for the first oh, I don't know, almost 11 hours of daylight? you mean to tell me in 11 hours since the sun came up, not a single person noticed that person laying there? That busy of an environment and not a single soul saw him drop? whatever. another prime example of how the "me" generation only looks out for each individual member, instead of society as a whole entity- and I don't mean just college students either! this entire city is filled to overflowing with people of all ages that think life only applies to them until something bad happens to them, then it is the fault of the police, b/c heaven knows up to that point, they reported so many crimes they saw to the police! ignore crimes to everyone else, yet scream there are no witnesses? whatever!

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 18, 2008 at 09:50 AM
He was not a student, he was 29 years old, which they stated in the local paper yesterday. It had nothing to do with alcohol and they will find that out after the autopsy. This has nothing to do with the UW or its students.

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 18, 2008 at 09:20 AM
how is he unidentified if he was moving stuff with the guy that lives there. you would think he would know who was helping. sucks though. watch its some rare med condition or something.

Each year I expect (sadly) to read this type of story. When you're 18-22, there's no way something like this happen to you...until we read about another death.

Posted by: Wow Location: Madison on Aug 18, 2008 at 08:26 AM
So he was drinking late on Friday night, but wasn't discovered until Saturday at 5 pm? Oops.

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 18, 2008 at 04:19 AM
FYI, this person was not a UW student.

Posted by: gracie Location: madison on Aug 18, 2008 at 02:36 AM
another wisconsin death contributed to alcohol- thank heaven this individual wasn't behind the wheel! it is so terribly sad how citizens kill themselves with legalized poisons in the name of relaxation, entertainment, fun, and partying! once again I think Dane county should go booze free, not cigarette free! wake up Mr. Doyle- every time a citizen dies of alcohol, you lose a potential voter instead of just "reducing the risk" of possible lung cancer at some future, undetermined date sometime in the future!

Posted by: Brady on Aug 17, 2008 at 09:10 PM
To Anonymous, until they release the cause of death don't make judgments that alcohol was the culprit. You have a small mind.

Posted by: Mickey on Aug 17, 2008 at 05:45 PM
Yup, classes not even in session yet and we have our first drinking death.
