Last week, the City of Madison website experienced what appeared to be SQL injection attacks (hacker attacks). City Information Technology is working aggressively to repair the problem and restore all web services.

The Website itself is still up and running. But as of 5:30 pm Friday, City Information Technology brought down all web services that could become targets of attack.

In order to repel the attacks, Information Technology will keep web services down while they ensure no further attack can enter the site. The City hopes to start restoring web services within the week.

“Over 70,000 sites have been hit with this attack around the world. At this time, we have no reason to believe that we have been specifically targeted,” Cieslewicz said. “Information Technology has been working non-stop and are bringing in every available resource to address the issue. We plan to have services up and running as soon as possible.”

The Mayor also noted that credit card information was not compromised through the attacks.

working non-stop? doesn't that violate some sort of unionized worker rule? don't they stop for breaks, meals, bathroom trips? that would be stopping! it is 7 PM on Monday- are they there now? (guessing probably not)- whatever- I love how the city's idea of "non-stop" means between the hours of 8 and 4:30, but for the rest of us, it is a 24 hour period repeated until the task is done!
