The incident started just after at 4 p.m. and Madison Fire Department units were on scene for about an hour, according to a department news release.

The initial medical response for an injured person was quickly upgraded when it was learned that a chemical spill was involved.

Based on information gathered from the scene, the Hazardous Incident Team evacuated about 25 occupants from the building.

The spill, consisting of less than two liters of methyl bromoacetate, was contained within a room and the situation was found to be under control.
