Hotel Security Guard Thwarts Robbery Save Email Print

A | A | A

Wednesday, August 20, 2008 --- 10 a.m.

According to the Madison Police Department:

Around 1:12 a.m. this morning Madison Police were called to Howard Johnson's, 3841 East Washington Avenue, for a robbery in progress. An officer happened to be in the area and arrived on scene within two minutes. The officer entered and found a hotel security guard had already handcuffed the suspect after ordering him to the floor at gunpoint.

The security guard had been in a backroom when a masked Jessie L. McShan, age 46, Madison, confronted a female clerk and announced this was a robbery, and to "Give me all the money!” The clerk, knowing the security guard was near, stalled for a moment by telling Mr. McShan she needed to find the keys.

It was enough time for the security guard to whisper to the clerk to step back, and as she did, he stepped up with his gun drawn. Mr. McShan was dressed all in black. He had a hooded sweatshirt over his head, sunglasses on, and a doo rag over his face. He was also wearing black leather gloves. No weapon was seen or found. He was tentatively charged with Attempted Robbery.

go ahead Ted & J, make jokes- I figured as much. See, I knew eventually the parties that hold the most interest in this proposition would put people out to debunk my theories and facts. your cracks at making me look like I'm crazy are futile attempts, b/c more and more people are listening! Why were you asking about the foil/ head thing J? did you need to try it? I would recommend putting the lump where you gather it all together at the base of your neck in the back, so you have both sides of your head, and your face to lay on without a big lump of foil getting in the way! make sure you wrap your upper and lower jaws though, to block the signals from reaching the micro anttenae the gov. had your dentist put in the last time you had a tooth filled, or had a throat swab at the doc's office! if they can microchip dogs, what do you think is on the end of the tongue depressors your doc uses? Madison's mayor is getting his gateway to the capitol- by scaring people off the south/ west sides!

J... I don't think a tin foil hat is going to help Rodney, it appears Gov. Doyle's henchmen have already stolen his brain.

Rodney... is uncomfortable sleeping with that tinfoil hat on your head so the gov't doesn't steal you thoughts?

It's a conspiracy! Mayor Dave doesn't want people on the west side when he spent millions $ on fixing E. Wash., so he makes the west side look dangerous, the east side look great, & people stay on the east side! Look @ it! two hotels, a gas station, a pizza car got ripped off, prostitution stings, yet on the east side 2 off duty deputies and security guard catch movie theater robbers, a hotel security guard stops a robbery, making it all safe on the east side! South and West sectors are violent, north not so much b/c the airport is there, and east is low crime w/ more successful captures!

Could be the hotel wanted a security guard just in case something happened. Smart move on their part!

All of this talk about shooting people is scary. Are you all gun-toting card carrying members of the NRA? (No, that’s not a compliment). Violence only breeds more violence. The security guard job did a great job and so did the officer. Shooting anyone would have been unnecessary. Have you thought about anger management classes? Unstable people like you should not own firearms. Good lord. Thank god the Madison police are out there to stop you.

Excellent work!! Too bad he couldn't have shot him for good measure. Hopefully this is the same low-life that's been involved in other robberies and they can pin those on him too. Enjoy your time in prison loser.

If a hotel has to hire security, does that mean they have had problems in the past like this? or with just trash loitering in the area?

Annon Aug 20, 1:11PM: are you trying to imply police are security guards? Remember police have to take calls, which oh by the way, may not be happening near the scene of a place being robbed, they have to do proactive patrols elsewhere, they need to make traffic stops, and a host of other things. The amount of money you're paying for police in Madison is incridibly low for the job they do. Why don't you just be thankful for the great services you receive.

To annon at 1:11pm, You do not pay taxes for police to sit at hotels do you? Are you proposing police sit at every hotel, every private business, every private residence so they can prevent crimes from happening everywhere? Madison is the only city I've ever lived in where the residents take very little to no responsibility for their safety. What makes this worse, is that you have no idea how good your police services are. Go to Milwaukee and see how "professional" their police are. Go to Minneapolis, St. Paul, basically anywhere in the south, Reno, any host of cities, and you will find that the agencies in Dane County are amazing compared to elsewhere. You people just dont get it! When I first moved to the Dane County area I was told, "Welcome to Dane County, 76 beautiful square miles, surrounded by reality." After living here for nearly 4 years, I know exactly what that person meant. Its time to grow up Madison, lets all jump into reality together!

Good Job Security Guard. What is his name? Good job for the hotel to have hired a security company! It is too bad that we have to pay for our own security when we already pay taxes for it. But don't the mayor's buildings look nice down town!

That's outstanding. Hat's off to the security guard. I just wish we could get Madison to wake up to it's violence problem.

This is wonderful news. The clerk was on her game enough to stall, and the security guard was prepared to act. Well done!!
