According to the Iowa County Sheriff's Office:
On Wednesday, August 20, at approximately 6:25 p.m. the Barneveld Fire Department was dispatched to a residential fire on 2949 CTH T in the Town of Brigham. The initial calls indicated that the structure was fully engulfed in flames.
Barneveld Fire and EMS responded along with mutual aid units from Hollendale, Ridgeway and Mount Horeb Fire Departments.
The owner of the property is Betty Duffey of rural Barneveld. Her son Mark C. Duffey - age 50 - was the current resident of 2949 CTH T.
The current resident was unable to be contacted at the time Fire units arrived at the scene and due to the unknown origin the fire is under investigation. The State Fire Marshall's Office was called in to assist with the investigation, which is still ongoing.
A meeting is expected to take place with the current resident to help determine the cause and origin of the fire. The investigation will continue until a determination is made.
The building and its contents are considered a total loss.
