A Familiar face says he's throwing the hat in for the Dane County Sheriff's race this fall.
"My name is Mike Hanson and I'm excited to announce my candidacy to become the next Dane County Sheriff," the Madison Police Department's Public Information Officer announced Monday afternoon.
Hanson says he plans to concentrate on bringing down the number of traffic fatalities along roads and highways. He also wants to avoid future overcrowding in the County's Jail.
"So many inmates are leaving the county and costing taxpayers 1.9 million dollars per year,” says Hanson. “When I become Sheriff, I want to take a look at when putting that new facility would be more beneficial than paying that 9 million dollars per year."
Hanson is running as a Republican. The reason: he says he has a fiscal responsibility to taxpayers.
Besides his duties with the Madison Police Department, Hanson serves as a member of the Dane County Board of Supervisors.
