A few years ago Larry Schultz of Madison wouldn't have dreamed of competing in the Ironman race.
That's because two years ago a severe asthma attack almost killed him.
Today, after only one year of training Schultz ran his very first Ironman.
Not only did he have to overcome his Asthma but he also had to learn to swim.
His family says they're not surprised to see him participate in this year's race because he's always been driven.
Diane Schultz, Larry's wife says, "He has a very competitive nature and he always sets himself up for these big challenges and he's got to beat them...he's just that type of person."
Schultz's wife says doctors gave Larry the thumbs up before today's event.
To be on the safe side Larry did carry his inhaler with him.
