Friday, October 10, 2008 --- 8:40 a.m.

At 5:23 am Dane County Sheriff's Deputies, with assistance from the Stoughton Police Department, along with Stoughton Fire and EMS, responded to Skaalen Road near Spring Road, in the Town of Pleasant Springs, for a report of a motorcyclist down on the road. Initial assessment indicated the motorcyclist may have been involved in a crash.

Deputies determined the motorcyclist, age 50 of Stoughton, had been the victim of a hit and run crash. Reports were given that the offending vehicle may have been a maroon or red pick-up truck seen fleeing northbound on Spring Road from the scene. Deputies were able to track the suspect truck by following debris falling off of it as it fled the scene. Deputies located the suspect truck, a red,1994 Dodge 1500, approximately 5 miles north of the crash. The driver had left the disabled truck and fled on foot.

Wesley M. Quam, age 20 of Stoughton, was determined to be the offending driver after locating him at home. Quam was arrested for Hit and Run Causing Great Bodily Harm, OWI - Causing Great Bodily Harm, and Failure to Render Aid, and booked in to the Dane County Jail.

The motorcyclist, who's name is being withheld pending notification of family, was transported to an area hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries. The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet, which most probably prevented more serious or life threatening injuries.

Dane County Sheriff's Office Crash Reconstructionists were called in to help with investigating the crash. The crash remains under investigation at this time. Anyone who may have witnessed this crash or may have been driving on Skaalen Road between 5:00 am and 5:23 am is asked to call the Tipster Hotline at 608-284-6900.

Lori? Lori? Come on, don't leave us hanging......

Lori, what facts would you like us to know? The fact is, Wesley Quam was arrested. The fact is, he was booked into the jail. The fact is, the charges listed on his booking sheet are Hit and Run Causing Great Bodily Harm, OWI Causing Great Bodily Harm, and Failure to Render Aid. This article doesn't discuss his actual guilt or innocence, or the reason for this "mistake", but the facts are reported. So again Lori, what other facts don't we know?

There is a big problem in this entire state with people drinking and getting behind the wheel. Not just Stoughton. The kid is probably just like thousands of others every year that think that they are safe to drive. It is terrible that another was injured because of the blind stupidity of another person who thinks that it's okay to drink and drive. It's time for all of us to stand up and recognize that we all need to do something to stop this epidemic. We need to teach our children when they are young that alcohol and vechicles do not mix. We need to lead by example. My prayers are with the gentleman who was injured and hopefully the young man gets the help and punishment he deserves.

I don't believe kids in Stoughton are different from kids in any other community and unfortuantely accidents like this happen everywhere.

I agree with Anonymous, Its not just a little mistake, These spoiled kids in Stoughton think they can get away with anything, I use to live there for 12 years. Im not surprised to hear that this kid from Stoughton would run from the cops. I hope the man that was hit is doing good!

People make mistakes?!?!?! No buddy from stoughton, this is NOT a mistake, its pure HITTING SOMEONE, KNOWING ABOUT IT, AND THEN RUNNING FROM THE COPS IN PURE IDIOTIC FASHION. This idiot needs to spend a long time in jail for this one. Glad to hear the man hit was doing ok, and not having life threatening injuries

5 in the morning...drunk...underage...he'll go to jail for a few years or less...get out...get his licence back and life goes one... My question is "WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE"??? I've mentioned this on here and in fact talked to WI state officials about laws that should read "get caught drinking and driving...you loose your licence forever...no exceptions...no driving school no first, second or eighth DWI." People need to take responsibility of their actions or face consiquences that will last forever not just temporary.
