A renewed call for more help from the public in the case of a murdered UW Madison student.

The mother of Brittany Zimmermann tells NBC 15's Dana Brueck the family is "begging" for people to come forward with any possible information.

Jean Zimmermann's 21-year-old daughter, Brittany, was found murdered in her West Doty Street apartment the afternoon of April 2nd. The Zimmermanns have established a reward fund in hopes it will help solve the case. Jean Zimmermann says it has grown to more than 10-thousand dollars.

What Joseph said.

Dont you people "shame on me" and talk to me about Karma. I have done more to help people in my life then most of you ever will. I have the right to express my opinion. The Zimmermans dont have a killer behind bars and they are going through the anger phase of the loss of their daughter. But there is no reason to take out their anger on people who dont deserve it. They need counseling...like any family should have after a murder. And if it were my family member murdered, I would do what ever the police needed me to to help them, but I would do nothing to hinder them. I know how police investigations work, and I know it takes time to gather evidence. Id much rather have it done with meticulous care than have it done quickly to appease a pushy family only to have the evidence thrown out by a technicality. Remember OJ! Bad evidence and a good lawyer got him off.

She was killed in her apartment. What are you talking about? (for anonymous at 3:06pm 10/20)

Posted by: Anonymous on Oct 20, 2008 at 03:06 PM
From the information that the police disclosed before, I thought that she was killed in her apartment. Had we had more details, someone may have saw something and come forward.

6 months and their daughter's killer is still free?!? I don't blame them for doing anything and everything to try to get justice and get a killer off the streets.

Shame on all of you. How many of you have lost a daughter through brutal murder? I am sure there is more too this story that you are all aware of. Obviously, you guys are a bunch of uneducated idiots whom have no sympathy for this family. My question is how does hanging up posters be considered obstruction of justice? To the person that stated, "stop making a big fuss and let the police do their job." Are you joking me. Has your loved one been brutally murdered? Hmm... I don't think,so... All I can say is karma.....

my thought are with Britneys family and friends. i simply cannot imagine going through this. how horrible to have your loved one- a bright beautiful young girl taken away from you so suddenly and without reason or answers. unreal. Rest in Peace Brittney.

Sam, Jean Zimmerman made the locks no good comment not too long ago. I cannot imagine what I would be doing in this case. If my child was murdered I would also be doing anything and everything within my power to get information. Although I do not agree with the lawsuit after lawsuit that they file, I am not in the position to say what they are doing is right or wrong. I hope this additional information helps in finding the killer, but just think of all the comments that will be posted on here about what a worthless police force Madison has if it does. Get ready MPD!!

why was this information withheld for so long? It could have maybe helped when it was fresh in everyones mind. I hope they find her killer soon.

Posted by: Sandy Location: Madison on Oct 20, 2008 at 10:49 AM
I bet if this happend to anyone if your family, none of you would be so quick to judge. Put yourselves in the Zimmermann's shoes for just one minute. Could you stand to know that your son or daughters killer is still out there? I don't think so...

Posted by: Anonymous on Oct 20, 2008 at 10:07 AM
The media is as much to blame for this. They know who the murder is but won't reveal it. Bring it forth.

People said the same thing about the Marino family interfering and that they needed to "calm down" and I believe their son's killer is behind bars (innocent til proven guilty I know) but you get the point. So people were obviously wrong about the Marino's. So now I can't believe that people are telling the Zimmermanns to calm down. While murders are not solved in an hour, remember the families don't stop greiving that fast either, they are handling it the only way that they know how, and who's to say that you wouldn't be the same way if you were in their shoes. I am sure none of you who are making those comments have been in their situation, and God-willing, I hope you never are!

I thought she was taking a semester off from school last spring. Does anyone else remember hearing this?

Posted by: Sam Location: Blue Mounds on Oct 19, 2008 at 03:28 PM
Who said the locks were not good? Maybe it was someone who knocked on her door and she was too trusting and opened it with not knowing who was at the door. I agree the family needs to back off and let the police do their job but who else, in this situation, wouldn't be just like her family is acting right now?

Posted by: Tammy Location: Monroe on Oct 19, 2008 at 02:58 PM
You people that are criticizing the family need to find something better to do. Your attitude and being nasty to the family is doing nothing to help service justice to this family, nor will it lessen their drive to find out who murdered their daughter. This family has gone through enough, they probably want this to all end. Could you imagine being in their shoes?! Maybe when something horrible happens to you and your family you will be considerate to other's feelings. I hope you don't have to have something awful happen to realize that your comments are rude and uncalled for. Let this family help the police and possibly have someone come forward to give them healing closure. Honestly, you should all be ashamed of yourselves. Didn't your mother tell you that if you had nothing nice to say not to say anything at all?

This isn't CSI.... It will take more than 60 minutes.

The Zimmermans are going through a horrible tragedy, of course they are dealing with anger! Of course they won't stop until justice is served, and they might not even stop then....because they will still be mourning their daughter. I am sure they realize that the police are doing what they can, but they want to do what they can too. I support her family and I hope that they can open up some eyes with this so it won't happen again. I'm sure the mother feels horrible that they didn't try to fix the locks on the door, but it shouldn't have been her responciblity in the first place, its the landlord's! hindsite is 20/20, and I am sure the landlord feels bad about this too...so once again this needs to open eyes to everyone that violence can happen anywhere to anybody, and even though we shouldn't live our lives in fear, we need to understand that something simple such as changing a lock might make a difference.

In the article in the State Journal, Mrs. Zimmerman mentions helping Brittany clean and paint her apartment when she moved in. OH, wait, is this the apartment that the Zimmermans called "uninhabitable" in their lawsuit against the management company? The one that had really poor locks? I wonder if she feels any culpability that she knew exactly what kind of place her daughter was moving into and didn't do anything about it. Or are they lying in the lawsuit?

Posted by: Joseph on Oct 13, 2008 at 12:59 PM
I have to agree that the Zimmermans need to settle down. They are not helping the case but are hindering it. If they continue I hope the DA will file an obstruction charge against them. Yes, it is horrible that their daughter was killed, but as I said before, this is not television and crimes are not solved in an hour. It may take months or years, and that is the reality of it. If the Zimmermans continue to interfere like this, the likley hood of their daughters killer being caught will continue to drop.

my thoughts are with Brittany's family. I can't imagine going through this.

reward fund my butt! as sue happy (litigious is the term, I believe, but perhaps not the spelling) as these people are, I think they have pretty much scared off any witnesses because now anyone with information would be scared as hell that if they did have info, they might get sued for not coming forward, or the cost of the other lawsuits the family filed while waiting for that info to come forward! No thanks- even if I did have information, which I don't, I sure as hell wouldn't trust THIS family not to sue my butt when it came time for trial! that was a real, totally stupid move to try to sue the landlord/ management company, the county... it just seems like money, money, money- which makes me wonder if the person with the 411 will get the reward anyway, or if the family will just keep it to help pay their legal bills!

What part does the Zimmerman family not understand that the police are doing everything they can in trying to solve this case. Zimmerman family here is a little advice STOP MAKING SUCH A BIG FUSS AND LET THE POLICE DO THEIR FREAKEN JOBS!
